For lighting my Mr heater I use a butane stick with pizzo electric ignition.  It works to light it even if the butane won't flow.

Probably too big for most people but I carry (in my shack) a small torch that screws into a small propane bottle. Works every time and the wind doesn't blow out the flame.

I need to get a zippo or something, but I usually just use matches to light my coleman stove.

When I was a smoker (about 12 years ago) the Zippo was the most reliable one out there. For fishing though I'm not sure that's what you want. There's alway's the residual naptha vapor on your hands.

I use one of those long-nose propane lighters that you use for lighting grills with.
If it's extremely cold they can be a bit hard to light, in which case putting it under your coat for a minute or two solves that problem.

i normaly use strike anywhere matches, they are cheap and very packable to use although they don't work at all when wet but also use a zippo if they don't work

You can get those catalytic butane lighters also, the ones with the invisible flame. They are great in the wind, perfect for cigarettes and hot enough to solder with. But some are short & stubby like a zippo, and don't have the reach of one of those long reach butane jobs. Others are sold as mini torches or soldering tools have a much better reach. New models are always coming out. Look in outdoor catalogs or technical tool catalogs. 8)

I use a butane grill lighter, it has the jet like windproof flame. I think I get them in the camping section of wally world. It is nice to have the long lighter tube, it saves on burnt fingers. :'(
