Out on the ice without a helmet?
« on: Mar 03, 2015, 09:38 PM »
How many people here ride out on the ice on their 4x4's without a helmet? Does the DNR mess with you or let it go? I wear one from the truck out but sometimes I forget or just in a hurry when moving to a new spot and don't put it on.

Check with the regulations for your state, and use that as your guide.

Here in Ontario it is the MNR and they love the idea of handing you the $180.00(?) fine.

I have been driving my snowmobile out my whole life without a helmet. I always wear one on the trail, but there is no way I am getting hurt while putting around at 20 mph towing a fishing sled.

And if they don't get you the local police will.

I always wear one. I have no desire at my age to accidentally land on my head and end up at the ER. If the weather is cold and nasty I often leave it on to fish, hard to beat their warmth.

I have been stopped tree times for helmet check. Never ticketed. I don't go fast pulling my gear and shanty, so that has helped when it wasn't on my head, even though I did have the helmet with me. I told him it was too cold to put it on over my face mask hat and hood that I was wearing. If I make a run to the shore alone, I always put on the helmet. Or running a line of tip ups and getting out of first gear.

I can't stand the people that fly up and down the lake on their snow machines without helmets on. I can understand not wearing one if you are going under 30 or whatever but I always see people flying up and down the lake with no helmets on.

Raced and ridden Dirt Bikes and quads since I was a kid..I feel naked without a helmet on...I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to wear one...Keeps the cold off from my face and helps with vision..
My wife and my buddy are both Nurses in the ER....Let's just say the repeal of the helmet laws in Michigan and ORV riders without helmets has increases the amount of organ donations..

Helmet laws suck we are adults and don't need the government making decisions for us.
If fishing is a sport are we considered athletes?

Thats fine with me....Just sign a waiver stating you won't accept any government help for you or your family or insurance help in case of catastrophic injury...
Love the road riders that make that statement then lay it down and have to collect government assistance for themselves and their family for the rest of their lives..
I've pretty much seen it all in 40 plus years of riding and racing both on and off the road..

My sxs has a roll cage and seatbelts, but I still wear a helmet. Could be that  I like the face shield. If only moving a short distance I leave it hanging on a headrest.

I seriously think there is a higher probability of me having a head injury from slipping on the ice in the parking than riding my sled <20mph for a mile or less to my fishing hole.  I don't wear a helmet in the parking lot, and I don't wear one when riding out to fish.  Out on the trails, always.  No mandatory helmet law here for 18+ year olds.

Nope no helmet. Never been talked to buy anyone about it. I'm not sure what the law even says about it here. There are mornings I think I really wish i had my helmet on. But that is mainly to keep my face warm.
