First skim ice of the season
« on: Nov 15, 2023, 09:55 AM »
Spotted in NEPA a couple days ago. With a few lows in the lower 20’s it gets the pulse going knowing it won’t be long now!   @)

Looks like the first fishable ice of the season could be mid-Dec if Accuweather forecast is accurate! 🤞

I figured you would be the first one to make a Pa post this season.  Let's hope we get a decent amount of days on the hardwater this year.  Sausage sandwiches waiting in the wings.

yeah, I'm here. I'm looking at these snowstorms we're supposed to be getting after thanksgiving. They're saying a strong el-nino this winter.

I knew you must be lurking around here!  ;)

Now what’s this about snow “storms”?!  ???  All I see is snow showers or rain/snow mix in the forecast........

But I have snowshoes and Smitty sled in case you’re right!  ;D

A day like today is great to get us set up for colder temps later. It hasn't gone above 31F here in Woolrich, and the wind is blowing like crazy. This will get any remaining lakes to get some pretty uniform temps throughout the water column. Then we only need some still nights, very few clouds, and low temps and the hard water will start to form!

I would call it...............THE SEARCH FOR FISHABLE ICE season!  ;)

Hopefully this year it is not nearly as much of a struggle to find safe ice! 🤞🤞🤞

Not to jix us but it should be a better season. I believe they call this an El Nino winter and for norther pa that means more moisture and snow. Heavy snow fall is what makes the most ice for us. It is cloudy, not as structuraly sound, but it is what we fish best and it is a good start that continues to build. It will cap the lakes, block wind on the water and produces the longest ice season on NC pa. Any additional snow adds weight, pushes more water up that freezes and just continues to add layers or garbage ice that can bring us into later March. The deep freeze/thaw lifestyle we have here needs the insulation as a buffer. Over an out ice addict. Happy jigging

Had 20* at the house this morning and our lakes were capped! Of course it is only skim ice and it won’t last, but just good to see! We’re getting closer.........

Hills Creek capped over this week too.  It won't last through these next few days, but the lake is primed and ready for a cold snap  ;D ;D

That's a good thing.  Sayers had some skim ice in hunter run cut and also some other areas up by the bridge.  Getting ready.  Nez
