Early ice brings lasting disappointment

Looking at the weather outlook and it looks hopeless. Other than the fact that many of us got out before the new year, does anyone have any positive words?

I shot a decent buck in rifle and the boy didn’t get one.

Was his first year ever not shooting one. He shot his s first at age 7 and now he’s 16.

He ate some humble pie!! Lol

It does look hopeless. I live in sepa & some years we don't get safe ice anymore. Some years we get ice that only lasts a couple weeks if that. I find myself driving further & further every year. Just to get on the ice to fish. I got out 1 evening last week on ice thinner than my comfort zone. I was hoping to make the 2 hour drive tomorrow to Bradys. But Im unsure of the conditions. Warm sunny weather rots the ice. On the bright side Im still hunting a buck.

Same thing every year. We have warm ups and cold streaks. A bunch of guys jump to conclusions and say it's a bust and then a few weeks later, we're usually all on safe ice haha. It's PA be patient. Still hope for late January and February

Time will tell. 

I'm  not sure the weather is like this every year,  but we get your point.

I'm sure hoping the cold comes back since I missed the early ice this year due to holiday travel, etc.  Ice will take a real beating the next couple of days before it shifts into neutral and we go back to coolish conditions--not good enough to make ice, but should stop the bleeding.  Some forecasters seeing a flip back to cold around the third week of the month.  Hopefully, then we can have a good February.

When I was at Promised Land during the holiday cold snap there was about 7 inches of ice. Will this recent warm weather kill off most of that ice?

Had a solid 4-5" on my local early last week. I fear it will be mid to late January before I'm able to get out there again.

Just wait it will get cold again for a few days and you will start to think ( I gonna get back on the ice) only to have another stretch of 40 degree days and dash all hope of any ice fishing in Jan. But wait maybe Feb. .

And corn that came from our garden..for dinner tonight..Fried fish was excellent..just waiting to get get back out there.

we did the same now we need mo fish,the crappie was mo delicate but the bass was mo filling, the weather man is chas^nging his mind daily its still 55 degrees here but the big chill is on the way.hopefully

Im tired of this damp, Rainy gloomy weather. Id rather have sunny days .Then I would at least take my boat out . Its a very depressing winter

Well might be a little more waiting on the western side of PA still hoping we get on again. I figure with all the times I missed due to lack of ice  might call for a road trip to check out the tackle shack and what the fishing is like that way?

Definitely hoping for a  freeze up ..Eventually my husband and I want to try MN.lakes for large perch..
We have been to Michigan fishing before and NY..
Miss our local north western PA lakes though.🤔
