Neal and I watched the forecast all week and figured we could find safe ice somewhere on Sunday. We decided to head up to Massachusetts and hit a place we fished last winter. When we got there it was open water. We studied the atlas and found a place just west of Quabbin Reservoir. It looked to have some safe ice, but was a public water supply and marked with signs that said no fishing. We continued north and got above Quabbin. The first two ponds we got to were all open water. Things weren't looking good for an afternoon on the ice.:furious: The next pond we came to was frozen over with about 3" of strong black ice.
We drilled about a half dozen holes and started jigging.
It only took about 5 minutes to jig up the first perch of the season.
We only had a few bites, but it was still great to be out on the ice in November!
