Winchester Launch Isn't Safe
« on: Dec 18, 2009, 04:33 PM »
I tried to get on at the Winchester launch today but the ice kept breaking. I threw a rock about 60' and it went right threw, and I also noticed a big open area a few hundred yards off the launch. Everyone be safe this weekend!

I wondered if the wind was going to rip her open or not. My plan was to fish somewhere up that way Sunday, but that is probably shot down if we're getting some weather.  >:(

Not surprising really. Didn't someone go through while playing in the stumps at the end of last season?

The launch was designed with boats in mind, not icers. That loud spillway 25ft away should be the 1'st clue. Even if you have 4 or 6 at the launch, it can and does go down to 2 or 3 in that channel that runs north/south along the lake. Spanky and Kapt will rubber stamp that too.

Be safe guys. They got little snow, and the cold weather is going to hold. I'm planning on my first trip this weekend (again). In fact, I'd blow off what little family I have and go Friday if I could.  >:D
