Honestly I'd trade you my new one for it.... probably lol. EPA emission standard free, good find.

I brought my auger in other day so I'll finally let you know what the problem was. Anyone have any tips for not burning through centering points? Welding it in place aside...

If anyone in the Merrill, Wisconsin  area is looking for an older Eskimo 8900 (1993 I believe) there is one for sale right now for $80 on Craigslist.

I saw one many years ago, didn't know the guy so I didn't ask, but pretty sure it was on an Eskimo.

Does anyone know what grease Eskimo used in the transmissions on their augers in 2003 or early 2000s?

I think the easiest way to the truth is from the source.

Ardisam is helpful as heck, call them at 1 715 822 2415. Ext 146, ask for Eva, she WILL take care of you.

Idahogator, have you ever or have a schedule for opening up the transmission case on your auger to add grease?

The seal is still good, so it hasn't leaked any.  Eva said not need to check  it unless the seal or case gasket leaks.  So, I've never been in there.

The view in the parts guide will show the location of 'locating pins'.  Don't over torque the bolts and destroy the gasket, which is best to have on hand, and a new shaft seal. If the shaft stub has play/slop/motion side to side, best have a bushing, too.  Cluster party to follow, ha.    ;)2

The only other reason to open the case is shattered gears.      Good luck, Chris.

Thanks for the info.  When I was taking my auger out of the my truck I noticed that the gasket was leaking a little so I'm thinking I should change the gasket to prevent any problems.  My auger stays in my truck from first to last ice, rests on the handles with the gas tank fill being upright, and is bungee corded so it won't tip over.  From what you said I'm starting to think this isn't going to be as easy as I thought it was going to be - loosen up the bolts, separate the gear box, clean out the old grease and gasket, refill with grease, install the gasket, and bolt it back together.  I'm also wondering if I should also replace the shaft seal and the bushing even though I don't have any leaks in that gasket or motion in the shaft while I have the case open to replace the gasket.

Sorry for the delay, Chris, seems like I resemble the posting frequency on Iceshanty and am slowing down, too.   ;)2

There is a saying in the automotive repair trade ' if you pull the wheel, change the seal' .   Take note of and remove any burrs on the shaft where the through-bolt locates.   Hopefully, there isn't extensive scaring/wear on the bushing or on the shaft.      As for "cleaning out the old grease" ~ only necessary if it has turned black, which indicates wear.   Maybe good to hear what Eva recommends for grease quality and the amount. (Not full) !  (I only use Amsoil synthetic and will say, a high quality wheel bearing grease would be my choice, as, Amsoil lubes remain as manufactured, and do not shear back into a liquid of lessor quality.   Lube the shaft and seal before CAREFULLY installing.   There could be more questions arise, so, know I'll be around every day or three, ha.

I was wondering if I could get some advice on the breaking in process for my Mako auger.    Purchased it at the end of the season last year and have been itching to use it ever since.

Headed to the hardwater show tomorrow to pick up an Ice auger.  The Jiffy I've been using has seen better days.

I can't guarantee "forever" but I hit mine with a dab of marine grease. Very sticky and ultra durable in wet nasty conditions. I haven't had a problem getting the pieces apart at least every other year......
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Z51 owner, just lucked into the valuable 9" auger.  Picking it up tomorrow for $50.00.

Being a tip up guy, I find the 9" to be the best sized hole out there.  My 10" may go on the market.

Now I can use my Frisbee tip ups again.... the Frabills (LOL)

So I bought a used z71 head for 50$ was going to use it as a part motor for the z71 I already own but decided to fix it instead. My problem is now I have it running good the flight still slowly spins on idle. I've adjusted the throttle screw back to the point where it almost dies but the flight still spins. I can stop the spin by holding the flight. Would this be a clutch spring that may have broke?
