Just ordered a new mako yesterday. Figured since my strikemaster "walked" away, I would get what I wanted. Plus I needed one to match my hut.

Hey Chris, good to see ya over here!!! What's new in PA?! Hope yer summer wasn't a toaster like it was here... >:(  34 as I write.....20's tonite, high in the 40's tomorrow!!! Got whacked with snow in Northern Minnesota already, maybe a sign it's gonna be a REAL winter here for once!!! That's the earliest I ever remember snow here, even including the Halloween storm of '91. Now THAT was a storm!!! Working nights back then, went to bed on a clear morning, woke up at 5:00 PM, couldn't see out the window, it was blowin' all white...thought I'd gone blind!!!  ;D

You know it did! Feels like it is a very well put together machine. Metal handles and 2nd pull start right out the box. Can't beat it for 270 shipped!

Lakes are low everywhere! All my local lakes are way down and the Great Lakes might as well be dried right up. Its time to put the boots to Nestle and all the other bottled water companies who are scalping out lakes. The salmon can hardly run at all anymore. Very frustrated with our state and local governments not putting a halt to this.

Anyhow, too warm to be thinkin ice yet here in the upper mitten. If Im on in Mid December than it will be a good year.

Cheers!

Well gents, needless to say, I'm looking forward to my 1st full season here at IceShanty on the FOEAO  board.  Got the old 8900 hooked up nicer than she's ever been.  New tank, new recoil assembly, mitten grip, new blades, just need to maybe think about installing a new clutch so the auger doesn't spin at all when it idles.  No biggie, though.  Can't wait to get rockin' with my sister & our friends out there on the ice here in Northern Wisconsin with the 8900 and the Mako I picked up last winter.

Sounds like a winner, Mr Meiz!!!  ;D  Welcome to the site, and a nice job ya did there!!! As far as the auger spinning at idle (I was a certified small engine wrench on the side for many years) your idle MIGHT be a tad high, but usually it's rectified by installing a new clutch spring. (New augers will do this until the clutch breaks in) Ya can order parts by calling Eskimo at 1 800 345 6007, ext 146, that's Eva...she'll be able to fix ya right up!!!

Yeah, I have a new clutch with springs sitting here next to me on the end table.  I'm just hoping it's as easy as I think to install.

How many people have an Eskimo power auger that uses the Turbo Cut blades?  I have a Mako that I bought back in 2003 that uses them and it seems like Eskimo isn't making many as in years past.  I've been calling them since August and keep getting told next month.  If anyone is on Facebook or has the time to could you please help those of us that use the Turbo Cut blades and post or call them and ask them to keep making them and more of them.  Thank you.

Anyway, this might be getting kind of redundant, but I might as well ask.  Does anybody here know definitively where I could find instructions or a how-to on replaceing the centrifugal clutch on my old Eskimo?  It has a Tecumseh TC300 engine.  Any help is hugely appreciated because I really don't want to pay anybody to do something that could be monumentally simple.

It is easy, MM. Checking right now...give me some time to be able to post it for ya...umm... I can give ya an exploded diagram, but basically you just need to use a puller to get it off, then do a reverse reinstall...not sure what you need. The TC300 was on TONS of earth augers, ice augers, etc. Any small engine shop can give ya pointers how to pull it off and reinstall, it's pretty straightforward...let me know if ya need more, or PM me...

I can't use the Quantium blades, the Turbo Cut blades are curved where the Quantium blades are flat.  Do you still have your owner's manual for your auger, I know there's a diagram in there.

Will do.  Gonna try out reducing the idle speed before I bother with opening up the housing.

So, uh, what screw do I turn to reduce the idle?  YES, this is real life.  I can do the things if I know how.  I just don't have anybody in my life that knows this stuff.  I'm just out here trying to learn.
