I recently got my dad's Eskimo 10" auger. It's at least 15-17 years old.  Last time I used it was a couple weeks ago, and it cut OK.  I got new blades for it and hoped for the best.  Took it out today and cut one hole in mediocre time.  After that initial hole, other holes were damn near impossible.  The auger would not settle down, it wanted to jump all over.  It cut exceptionally slowly.  My brother and I teamed up (him on one side and me on the other) and it took over 7 minutes of continuous augering to get through 20 inches of ice.  Remember this is all with brand new blades!  My brother thinks the blades are out of whack or something is bent out of shape.  The point in between the blades is knocked off.  Could this be the culprit?  This auger situation really jammed us up today.

Any advice from this savvy group of Eskimo owners would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey dahuletts! Welcome! Yes, your blades are definately 'out of whack". The "jumping all over" tells me the blade angle of attack is too great..basically, the blades are trying to take too big a bite of ice. This can be a real pickle to deal with..are the blades the same as the old ones? Did you mount them with the bolts in the proper positon?, ie; exactly the same way the old ones were? If they were just dull, they wouldn't cut...you wouldn't get anywhere, but I don't expect it would jump around. One thing you should NEVER do is oush down on it while it's drilling...that may be part of the problem. I'd start from scratch and make sure they are razor sharp with no nick, reset them on the flighting, and sharpen that center point. Hope that helps!  :)

Thanks for the info.  I took off the new blades and they seem very, very dull considering they are brand new.  I put the old blades back on since now they are much sharper than the new ones.  I took a file to the center point and sweetened it up a lot.  Maybe I'll get a chance to take it out soon, just to check the, the uh, performance.  Ya, that's the ticket...

Thank you!

You're welcome!!! Just a tip.... Don't use a file on the blades...WAY too course..get a sharpening stone, like an Arkansas hard/soft stone...use a good oil, and follow the blade angle, honing until sharp. Those old blades are probably the ones to go with... Let us know how you ended up!!!  File on the center point is OK, though.  Where did you get the new blades? Were they Eskimo blades? Let us know... ;D

We'll do!  I've known this for a long time:  serious blade sharpening is over my head!  I sure expected more out of a new set of blades.  The were Eskimo blades and they were made in China. :(

Just found this thread and am LingMAO!!  I have an 8" 8600 built in 1992, purchased second hand from a forum member here, in 2006.  Still going strong.  Haven't sharpened the blades since I bought it in '06.  Just fresh gas and spark plug every year, starts after a couple of pulls, chews the ice.  Made me a big fan of Eskimo and likely to purchase other products of theirs if'n the need arises (say, like, a quickfish 3).  Anyone come up with a secret handshake yet?

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.

Welcome, Mr. vermonner!!! Glad we could crack you up!!! Actually, we're a bunch of unemployed comedians... :roflmao:  Glad you like your 'Mo...they just kinda seem to keep perking right along. We were going to use a "firm grip" type of handshake, but it didn't work well with gloves on, and when Surfy did it, there were too many complaints that there were a myriad of some type of tan-colored crumbs stuck to his hand all the time.... ;D Actually, here it is: extend hand out, palm down; extend thumb & little finger 90 degrees out, bump fists, rotate hand back and forth while going "RRRRRRR".. that be the 'Mo shake"! :roflmao: :roflmao:

OK heres the deal, I got an older Mako, that uses the triangular turbo BB8 blades, where I live, its real hard to get these blades, and they are real expensive, (80 bucks) so I was wondering if i can somehow mount my new Fin Bore III hand auger to the Eskimo,   right now I have an adapter for the Fin Bore to mount it to the Icegator,  but does anyone know if the output shafts on the Eskimo and Icegator are the same?

so i was recently given an older eskimo model 8900 that's been sitting in my dad's garage for the last year...tried to get it running the other day and no luck. it appears that the carb is not drawing gas from the tank...if i remove the spark plug and pour a little gas down in there, it fires and runs for a couple seconds. but once that fuels burned, it stalls....started to tear apart the carb (which i have virtually zero experience at doing) and it was pretty gunked-up...so i'm assuming i'm going to screw it up and need some replacement parts. soooooo.....could someone please tell me where i might find some replacement parts for a much older eskimo auger???? i managed to find the manual online....

http://www.cpdonline.com/694782.pdf

i believe mine has the TC type-1 engine and the walbro carb....i'm also in need of a new gas cap...it leaks gas even with the vent tightly closed.

THANK YOU!

So ya hey dere, yooper!!! Welcome!! You can get the parts and some good info from Eva at Eskimo....1-800-345-6007, ext 146. She'll be glad to help ya!!  :) Yup, sounds like you need a complete teardown and "degoo" of everything...I imagine your fuel tank is also gooed up with sediment...your reason it won't run,and your needles and seats are probably varnished up and stuck badly, too. Surfy is the pro on that model.... Surfy ol' boy...get your nozzle outta those snowdrifts and get this man some of your 8900 advice... ;D  I gotta pack for the expedition!!!!

Thanks for trying,   I emailed ESkimo and they said it has a 7/8 shaft, smooth,  Does anyone know if the Strikemaster augers are the same? if so I will just buy a Strikemaster auger bit for my Eskimo power  head, and buy the cheaper Strikemaster Laser blades   :)
