First Ice

Caught 3 bluegill in about 15 minutes at a little park near me. It was great to get out, ice was good enough but didn't go far from shore. Put the gear away for now, hope what we have doesn't completely disappear

First ICE was Saturday 12/16/17.  A group of us hit Portage Lakes (PLX) at Old State Park. Summit County.  Ice was sketchy at 2.5-3" at best.  All of us took precautionary measures along with our Personal Protection Equipment including, life vest, flotation suit, rope, hand spikes and whistle. Bite was slow.  I managed to catch 1 LMB., 3 lbs/17"  , but the other guys caught a few nice perch and dandy 9-11" gills.

By noon, the sun came out & the ice got more unsafe.  I fell thru for the very first time 6-7ft f water., managed to get out without any ill affects or injury.  Scary experience, but nontheless glad the guys were near & I got out ok.

Hope it freezes up soon again.

The forecast has me excited. Looks like we could have some solid ice soon.
