How Many Rods?
« on: Mar 10, 2010, 08:49 PM »
Starting to fish more perch, crappies, and gills, not just those pesky walleyes  ;D .  Was wondering how many rods you have.  Right now, I have about two good ultralight rods with nice reels, and then one when I occasionally put down a bobber.  How many do you all have?

6 good rods/reels. Mainly ul rods that are so light they need to no spring bobber. I just bout a south bend thin ice rod. very light but not as light as I want.  4 cheapys with a chinsy spools but they catch fish.

I have only been ice fishing seriously the last two years.
4 Rods, but only 2 reels at the moment. I plan on getting a couple of Tica Cetus before next year.

1. 19" Thorne Bros Finesse Plus w/spring bobber (Just got this, and haven't even used it yet, will set it up with a Tica for next year)
2. 25" Shakespeare Ugly Stick Light (The 1st rod I owned, nothing special, but I have caught a lot of fish with it.)
3. 28" Shakespeare Razor Tip Medium (Don't use this much)
4. 30" Mitchell Ultra Light (I use this as my dead stick (with ice buster bobber trimmed as light as possible) in my portable when I have two rods going)

1- 26" frabill L
1-Shakesphere Lady fish 26" (wifes)
1-HT Polorlite 27"  ML with a Shakesphere sigma 200
1-South bend ml-200 24" UL with a south bend klondike reel. Love this rod wish I could find more, it's been shortened a bit.
1-South bend "thin ice" 30" ul with a HT masterpeice 1750G
1- no name rod simular to the "thin ice" but smaller diameter with a shimano axulsa 500.  I love it. no spring bobber wish I could find more like this. Has very tiny eyelets. silver/green shaft???

I have a few of this style(4). They work good for shallow water and light bites.

all of them

I have 4 rods rigged up differently for panfish and another 4 in the corner of the garage with busted tips. I like to keep at least 6 ready to go if I need it. It makes life a lot more easier when I'm out on the ice. Some times I acutally catch fish.
It's been a bad year for me breaking stuff. The high priced gear is nice but, not when you have to buy it over and over again.
I'm a big fan of the ht ice blues.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

1 HT blue, 3 GM lites, 1 Jason Mitchell Spring bobber rod, 1 Berkley Lightning Rod Ultralight, and 6 home made custom rods that I built.  I know I am forgetting 1 or 2...I usually have at least half of them out with me, all rigged with different set ups...

I usually bring 10 rods with different jigs on each, that way your hands don't get cold tying on jigs. Just pick up another rod and keep fishing.

Have four rods rigged up and take with me .Two for outside the tent and two that get used inside the tent.I move a lot and with quick snaps don't have to worry about what rod should be used and for what baits.Keeps things fast and simple.Things might be getting narrowed even more.Been using a St Croix 14 inch rod (last two weeks)and with the Marcum sitting up close it seems like I can move and find the fish faster even better!

I have two ultralight rods for panfish and whitefish.
I have a Walleye Rod, and a heavy rod for jigging for pike and lake trout.
I also have two rods that came with my automatic fisherman.

All are rigged and ready to go.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

It would be nice to show my wife this!  She thinks I have way too many combos...looks to me like what I have is about average.  Boy it felt good to get these in my hands again!  Here is my list (from left to right):

1) Jacks Tackle Light Bite Series 20" / JR's Tackle UL
2) Jacks Tackle Light Bite Series 32" / Tica Cetus UL
3) Jacks Tackle Light Bite Series 27" / no reel
4) JR'S Tackle Carbon Ice 24" / JR'S UL
5) Jason Mitchell Elite Series 28" Walleye / Tica Cetus GV500
6) Jacks Tackle Ultimate Ice Series 28" ML / Tica Cetus
7) Pflueger Ice 26" M / Pflueger Trion UL

The Light Bite Series rods are amazing for those extremely finnicky panfish.   The tips are as sensitive as a spring bobber yet much easier to read, and have the backbone to get those hogs to the ice.  I highly recommend those rods!  I am also a huge fan of the Tica line of UL reels.  They out perform other reels on those darn cold days on the ice with steady smooth action, no freeze ups.

right now I carry 5 rods with me, two good jigging rods and three heavier rods for deadsticking.  Next year I am going to switch it up and pick up 3 or 4 good quality jigging rods paired with good reels, then when i go perch fishing that is what I am going to take rods for, when I go walleye fishing I will take those rods.  This way I can be alittle more specialized and prepared with different setups.
