Is it legal to throw butts on the ice ?
-
Trash is trash leave the place better than you found it 😉
-
no its not legal, it is considered littering and wardens will fine you if they see butts all over and you smoking.
-
Why would you throw them on the ice anyway? Personally I smoke like a chimney in between chasing flags.. I just throw mine in the sled,or coffee cup, or empty nip bottle works nicely.... all of which I take off the ice with me when I leave....I mean once the ice is gone where do the butts end up? In the water
-
I've seen people get written up for a pile of butts on the ice AND THEY SHOULD
-
nasty habit. give it up. then you won,t be throwing em everwhere
-
I never toss cig butts out anywhere. I have dogs, so I usually have one of those rolls of poop bags in my jacket pocket all the time, I just use one of those for any butts and cut pieces of line and stick it back in my pocket. I always keep a bag in my fishing vest too during the warmer months that I don’t wear a jacket. It’s not just butts, I’ve seen what looks like a whole spool of line just piled and tangled up in weeds along the bank that I pick up.

Leave no trace, always good to ensure no trash or butts left behind, butts are like brass...
-
been quit for 20yrs but when i did smoke i would roll out any tobacco left then pocket the butt. tobacco is biodegradable the butt isn't! learned to do this in the Army. a good idea if your out on the water. ;)

A few years ago I was chatting with the bio's during the Sebago derby, most of the fish that were registered they cut open to see what was in thier stomachs, I was amazed at the number of cigarette butts they pulled out...I've thought about using them for bait.
-
filters are hazardous waste the gross polluters should be fined then have to do community service like picking up all the butts in the area I also like it when people come to your house and bless you with butts their butts by leaving them in driveway and yard

I’ve seen too many fish with buts in their guts. Can’t be good.
-
I don't favor new laws but maybe it is time to prohibit cigarettes on lakes
-
smoking is a dirty habit. leaves trash everywhere - wrappers, empty packs, butts - everywhere you look. If you must smoke, please take all the trash with you
-
I smoke, but do not throw butts around. If I see people throwing their butts I tell them about it. They are smaller after smoked so don't say you have nowhere to put them. Like everything else though, do not make everyone out that does smoke a bad guy.

I hate cigarettes and littering, but I don't support a cigarette ban. Increase the fines for littering and call it good.
-
sadly, the ones that do it make a bad name for all smokers.
-
I worked 38 years as a fisheries biologist for Maine Fish and Wildlife and found cigarette butts in salmon, togue, brook and brown trout, splake, and bass. The butts block the digestive system.
For those who smoke, it's easy enough to carry a container to keep the butts in.
-
I'm a smoker but even more so in the cold waiting for flags. I throw butts in sled or in trash bag.
-
banning smoking on the lakes is not the answer. agree, do not take it out on the ones that respect the environment. Just like all else, it only takes a few to make a bad name for everyone else.

SMOKE FILTERLESS!!

yes, it's already illegal to litter... nuff said. Anybody caught leaving trash of any kind anywhere should be fined heavily and should have their hunting and fishing privileges revoked.
I'm a lifelong non-smoker but I am against bans because Uncle Sam has way more say in our private lives than he should as it is.
-
I believe cigarettes are exempt from littering ban. I have never heard of anyone ticketed for throwing down a cigarette.

Not getting caught is not quite the same as something being legal. ;)

. Not in MN.

It is very nasty to look at. Just like the ones I see when i go to the mail box or shopping or eating out or anywhere. Smokers are just plain nasty in getting rid of the remains. Just imagine how may are thrown in the water.

then they wonder why they get confronted about their habit! no one likes to see garbage thrown everywhere!
-
Really, you have to ask that question ?
-
Without a shanty, they all go in the same coat pocket...
While in the shanty, I don't wear a coat, so I used to pile them in one spot, and pick them up at day's end...
I got tired of a bunch of wet butts in my pocket.. Made some rod holders, and came up with another idea...
I hate butt heads!

At 5$ a pack, seems they could make the butts edible. Problem solved. Eat the trash..
