I was thinking of an alternative scoring system...let me know what you guys think....we'll run it by the mainers too. 5 points for 1st place fish, 4 points for 2nd place fish, 3 points for third place fish in each category and then 1 point for each fish entered which meets the minimum lengths already outlined in the rules for the regular tourney BUT which doesn't place in the top 3 for the species.....So basically we'll use the sytem already suggested with the addendum that fish entered over the minimum lengths BUT those which don't place in the top 3 in each category are also eligible to score points.....

wow thats an amazing lineup wheres the maine lineup at 0 entries? lol i think we have an advantage just by sheer fishermen and women.
what are the min lengths for the tourney again? because what i saw was absolutely insane
lake trout 40 inches
pike 44"
crappie 15"
and so on
those are trophy sizes and can be 1 fish in a lifetime catches

that's why I was thinking the alternative scoring system...because obviously something that makes the minimum requirements "should" be worth at least 1 point in the competition in my opinion.....I'll keep track of the tally for the end of the season...I volunteer my time while I'm at work to do so....

Crappie *15"
Perch *14"
Chain Pickerel *24"
Walleye *30"
Burbot *33" *Must be at least this length to qualify
Brown/Rainbow Trout *24" for randomly drawn Trophy prize.

For me personally i can do the bluegill no problem more than one if you'd like :)
crappie ive done 13.5-14.5 but never 15 icefishing
perch 14" i can do
pickeral 24" that can be done no prob
walleye 30" thats a tough one for me
33" burbot haha ive seen under 25" in NY
brown over 24" can be done if i actually try catching one :)
largemouth 21" isnt that big though i dont catch many in the winter
pike 44" the biggest ive seen is 40"
lake trout 40" wow i think id die if i caught one that big im hopeing for a 35" or bigger this winter
jsut dont count on me entering a gill, perch and pickeral but i will try :)

If you look at NY's Tiger Musky record it is bigger than there regular Musky (35lb. and 8oz. to 27lbs. 0oz.)That tells you something right there. Those sizes are big, but I am feeling pretty good. Had bass last year and one crappie that would have been short by a little. But tommorrow is a new and this is a new year.
NOW I HAVE A GOAL, do like one point for a registered fish kinda like an assist
Have not had a 44= inch pike in years, never thru the ice.

I am just going by those who have signed up for the 2006 tourney...same rules apply, must present a valid tourney card etc. All you got to do is sign up and you'll be added to the NY starting lineup...also I go by your location, so just make sure you write your hometown or NY in the mjessage when you sign up....

My buddy was guiding a fisherman on a NY trib that was from Maine and he stated that the fishing in Maine was not good. It is pretty weird that he was her to fish and buy land to have a fishing camp on. What does that tell ya.

Considering the city of N.Y. has almost 8 times the number of people as the whole state of maine I guess you definitely have the numbers. As far as hygiene goes I have been to nyc I bet there is more homeless people with no teeth then there is people in the whole state of maine. And if maine people are so nasty, why do I see so many ny lic. plates here all summer and why do so many celebrity's and rich people own homes in maine? I think it is a shame you people have to resort to personal attacks. I guess that is the ny way. And if you cant win maybe you can try to buy the trophy like the yankees try to do every year!!

Because the Adirondacks cover 6 million acres of State protected land that have NO developmental rights. Ever hear of the Great camps in the Adirondacks...we're talking about individuals who built this country (industrial revolution, railroads, etc.) who owned vast estates...not irrelevant celebrities.
Yeah, NYC really sucks...but at least when people talk about New York even foreigners have heard something about our state. Is Maine even a part of the United States? ;D

hey slacktide, consider taking NYC out of the mix because at last count i dont think anyone in the NY lineup for this derby is from NYC. plus they all have homes in maine because theres no good fishermen up there to complaine ;D

NYC and LI should be they're own state really. I dont get why everything who has never been to this great hunting and fishing state think that NYS is one big city.
theres only a handful of guys on IS that are from NYC and LI. And they have to travel away from the city to find good ice. And dont think there isnt good fishing in NYC as well. Central Park Lakes Have a very good population of 5 lb plus largemouth Bass in them. If you want proof check out lunkerville.com.

Is there anyway too give maine a handicap so they have a chance because really its unfair. OUr fishing is so much better in NY and the number of fisherman from NY too maine has gotta be at least 4-5 times as many. i think they need a handicap so at least they have a chance.

mainers dont eat perch because somewhere down the line it was drilled into their brains that perch are a trash fish yet they are so fun too catch and even better too eat.

feeding wild eagles with fresh fish is awesome, I got a chance to feed one up in Canada and got it on film the eagle swooping down to take a sauger that we sacerficed for the good of the wild eagle. ;D Way coooool. ;D

One good thing from this competition is I notice it has more people looking at other states' boards. The second good thing is this is promoting literacy, especially amongst the Maine population.

I am just going by those who have signed up for the 2006 tourney...same rules apply, must present a valid tourney card etc. All you got to do is sign up and you'll be added to the NY starting lineup...also I go by your location, so just make sure you write your hometown or NY in the mjessage when you sign up....
