Never have I not caught perch while using a Hali Jig with some bait on the small hook(maggot, spikes, meal worms, wax worms, etc.).  Some colors of jig usually vary only pending water color or bottom cover...  Tight lines...

Small silver/green kastmaster...remove treble/replace with 3" dropper tipped with minnow head or waxworm.  Keep it moving.  Hang on!
Thanks, Dad, for taking the time to show me how to fish!!

I've acutally nabbed quite a few on small airplane jigheads with different colored twist tail plastic grubs on the back.

It sounds like the hali jig is something I'm going to have to give a try this winter...

small spoons. ice flies, tear drops sometimes.
Oak leaf grubs also work well in NYS, they also take the abuse of several strikes.

Last year we caught some hogs on nippising with blade baits, 13-14 inch perch they faught like walters!

Hali jigs tipped with a couple waxworms bounced in the mud works well for me.

My second best is a small jigging rapala ,I tip just the front hook with a waxworm or spike .

Tear drop jigs and flies above these also take a few  perch every year for me.

Mmmmm.........deep fried perch fillets  ;D

Tip-ups with about a 3"-5" bluegill or a 4"-5" shiner fished close to the bottom :) Give me jumbos any day! If the perch don't eat'em the pike will  :)

Okay, reread the thread :embarassed:....would have to say my best lures have been airplane jigs or Rapala's. Airplanes tipped with small minnows and just the plain Rapalas

I would say hali, frostee, and pimple always go on first. From there it's just size and color that rule the day.
Although, all of my biggest perch have come from drop shotting (but first you gotta find em').

My go to when nothing seems to be biting is a bright green Northland rattle spoon with a minnow head. There are times when I do not know why I try anything else.

Cast Master with a minnow on it. Can someone tell me what oak leaf grubs are and what they look like?

Most of my favs are from Northland; the forage minnow spoon and fry, original airplane in 1/16th oz, and the doodle bug spoon.  Also have caught perch on homemade droppers, small jigging raps and nils jiggers, and once in MN on a really aggressive bite, a 1/2 oz pimple.  Usually a #2 is used  ;D

Hmmmph, don't even own an airplane jig. Gonna have to buy a few of those now. Does it ever end? This is fun isn't it? Can never have enough jigs

gold genz worm or gold anything as long as its heavy enough to race back down to the bottom again and get another one before they move. ;D ;D
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

Airplanes are a good lure, catch just about anything that swims with the right size, hell ive even caught burbot on them
