I have the mittens. They are awesomely warm. I generally use them to pull my house out when I have to walk as well as super cold days when I want to hole hop. I can't fish easily with a glove on my hand, so I keep the mit between my ribs and arm when I sit over a hole and when I need to warm up, quick put the mit on for a mintue.
I would think if you run a wheeler or sled across the lake, the gloves would be an awesome choice. Keep your hands nice and toasty warm while you run.
