Title: NEPA Reports Wanted
Post by: JMZ on Jan 17, 2021, 12:19 AM
Can I make a suggestion? If you are looking for a report for a certain lake, why don't you make the the request in the counties I have posted. It bugs me when I to go to a posting about lake conditions and find a request "for conditions on the lake". I will check "Luzerne County Reports Wanted" thread and go to that lake in a day or so and check out the conditions at the lake. You can compensate me for my gas! LOL

Hey Dinkmaster,

I guess I'm missing something in your post and sorry if this is a dumb question but how do I do that?

Thanks

I don’t even know why there are so many reports Or requests for reports on THIS page! Isn’t that what the REPORTS page is for?!  ;) ::)

I just wanted to start a county thread where people could ASK for a report for a lake in a certain county. When I see a posting for a certain lake I expect to see that there is safe ice of there is not safe ice. We all want reports for lakes so why should people even have to ask? ::)
Maybe I should have put this NEPA Reports Wanted thread on the reports page but I did't want to confuse people. If this bugs you, don't ask, thats OK.  ???

Hey Dinkmaster,

I saw you other post, I get it. We normally fish Mauch Chunk in Carbon, although if we want to fish this year we may have to further North. I was thinking about Promise Land also.

Thanks

All i am asking guys to post reports for the lakes they are fishing? Don't say what you are catching, so no one will slaughter your honey-hole. Look at all the reports from across the state. Please put the reports on the Reports Page.
If I had enough money for gas, I would go to these places and vacation away from my wife.  ;D

Agreed.  I have been doing this and it would be nice if others did as well so we all had current info to make informed decisions with our fishing time.  There are tons of opportunities for all in PA.  I was wondering if people were not posting due to mainly "white ice" from all the precipitation we had.  No idea, but I will post when I am fishing PA.  Headed to Lake George this weekend, so no posts from me.

Wallenpaupack has guys out at Wilsonville and Mangan. Fished a pond off of 590 yesterday and it still had 8” of white and 7” of black. Fish seamed to be moving to the shallows. Caught the majority of the fish in 6’ of water off a rocky point with a weed line.

What was the pull like? Did you get out to the cut area? The channel makes a swing from the launch side to the back side before it goes thru the cut. My son caught a tiger-musky there a few years ago.

If you want warm water reports go to myfishfinder.com. It would be nice to share some info on what's biting before the bass tournaments start. It would also be nice to know when the crappie are spawning. You don't have to give out your secret spot; just help some of the novices out.
You can use your username and password to log in. Go to PA, then to Lakes, and post conditions.

Met a friend yesterday near Long Pond. Fished a small private lake where there were a only a couple places to get on but the ice was still 9-11in. That said it deteriorated radically by the end of day. Caught lots of small crappie and a couple nice ones but overall an off day for that lake. Still it was great to get out on the first day of Spring! Hung up the gear this am.

Well, I checked our private lake last night and found 4” with the top 1” soft. But no less than 15 hits with the spud bar before it broke thru.

Returned this morning and everything tightened back up- fished until 10am but left even though the bluegill bite was picking up. I told myself I would leave at 10 when I went out and I stuck to it. Not gonna take any chances.

Promised Land and Tobyhanna are usually a couple inches thicker, so I’m thinking there are probably guys fishing there. However I stayed local because I wasn’t sure how good the ice would be.

I was coming up to White Deer Lake today from the Stroudsburg area. When I started up rte 402 from Marshall’s Creek it was 50* at about 2:45. When I passed Porter’s lake/Peck’s Pond area it was 43* and when I got to White Deer it was 40* at 3:15. 10* difference in about 25 miles and 30 min..............🤪

I saw pictures of Northern Wayne Co. (taken this morning)and there is still quite a bit of snow up there. DIFFERENT WORLD!  :o

JMZ, I have not fished DH this year, but I personally would not try it tomorrow.   All the NEPA lakes ice has deteriorated the past few days and DH can be tricky.  Ice is usually thicker to the left than to the right.  If we don't get a lot of insulating snow tomorrow, and we get the colder temps they are predicting, it would be better to wait for the ice to recover before venturing out.  Just my two cents.   Be safe!

Absolutely agree with pa carboy . if you do check it out would love to know conditions. Looks like they might get less snow up that way . I think if that holds true .up Northern Wayne co. Is best chance to get back on ice.
Title: Re: NEPA Reports Wanted
Post by: RuttNutt on Feb 13, 2024, 09:12 AM
Yep- lot of deterioration Friday/Saturday. I was on Promised Land Saturday and was hoping to go to Duck Harbor on Sunday but decided to stay closer to home and not risk driving over an hour (one way) and having to turn around and go home.

As it was, I almost had to do that at Promised Land on Sunday, but found a spot of safe ice(for me) 100’ from shore. The day before you could go just about anywhere on the lake you wanted.

I had heard on Friday Duck was 4” with bad spots so it is probably very sketchy now! Especially with some snow cover making it hard to see what the ice looks like.

I noticed with the colder temps the last few days the local lakes that were open now have skim ice on them. The problem is they are only skimmed over and not capped with several inches. And with the High wind forecasted for tonight into mid/day Saturday it will probably wreck the ice.

The lakes that still had several inches of ice like Promised Land(Upper) and White Deer should be OK this weekend. And some of the good lakes up in Wayne County like Duck Harbor.

It barely got above freezing yesterday and was 13* in Pike Co. this morning. And should be cold thru the weekend. So I am sure there will be options............... ...

I'm going out Sat and the options are: Brady's, Duck Harbor, or Lake Jean. Lake Jean and Duck Harbor should be OK. Any info on Brady's. Anyone going?

Does anyone know the conditions at Duck Harbor? I like to fish on a deeper lake this time of the year.
