I once saw a fella' use a similar rig with great efficiency. He was using a small spoon with a small treble hook; he then tied a short piece of line on to the spoon ring (attaching the treble to spoon) and added a small ice jig. He was outfishing us 2:1 that day. Give it a whirl...the worst the fish can say would be NO  ;D.

tight lines

I tried that and found that the jiggin action caused tangles.Last year I tried
doing it more like drop shot style .I kept the spoon on the bottem and tied my "dropper" dropshot style 6 to 12 inches above the spoon.I also started using flies(wet and nymphs) above the spoon.
Pound the mud with the spoon and if you don't get them on the spoon they will hit the fly.
Good luck

Hey Northern Fisher, how do you tie the fly to your line on the drop shot style? I'm not good with knots:) Just wanna know what knot/knots to try. Thanks.

You can just put a small barrel swivel between your main line and your mono line to your spoon and run a little tag line off the barrel swivel for your fly.You can tie your fly off first with a palomar knot and leave enough line for your spoon but I think the barrel swivel is the best way ,on ice with cold fingers ,I look for the easy way.
It has worked well for me and you might be surprised how many fish will take the fly
Good luck

How about using Northland's Stinger hooks?

i have used a dropper off the treble hook or split ring for 25 years. i dont use it all the time but bite gets slow it works. i use a small snelled hook about 4 inches long and a couple spikes and fish on bounce on bottom and lift up a couple inches and twitch  :icefish: :icefish:

Just be careful of actual way it is rigged.  It could be two lures on one line.

To keep the dropper line from tangling with the spoons treble you need to either tie off on the bend from one of the treble hooks or use something to keep your line tight to the center of the treble such as heat shrink tubing or beads. Also using a single hook on the spoon cuts down on tangles.
