World Record Ice Fishing Walleye!

This is supposed to be the Ice Fishing World Record Walleye.
Caught on Jan 4/2005, at Tobin Lake, SK.
Weighed 18.30 lbs., Length 36.5 ins., Girth 22.5 ins.

We have bigger in the Lake Winnipeg river system.
Just wanted to post for interest sake.

that thing is huge...walleyebuster, ever fish the bloodvein? I went on an outward bound trip there for 21 days and absolutely hammered the eyes...biggest was around 30" im guessing...didnt have a rule or scale but it was definately larger than the 27"er I got here in NY. Unbelieveable fishery...all wilderness too.

Never fished Bloodvein, Hood.
29 3/4" biggest on the Red River for me this year so far.
Could have stretched it to 30" but just being precise.

I saw on article on this catch on In-Fisherman Magazine.  I think he was a Priest or a Reverend.  I guess he prayed to the Fish Gods that day!!!  That walleye is huge.

While I agree there may well be ( and is ) bigger in our backyard, look at the size of that fish !!!!! Never underestimate Tobin Lake, it is an amazing fishery, and it's just not everyday a fish of that caliber is caught.
That being said, there's a reason that people fish the Red / Winnipeg river system day in and day out. And a fish of that caliber is the reason.

Yes, this was around last year...many IS members' keyboards had to be replaced due to excessive drool...you may be able to find one of the threads by using the search function...I haven't tried. 

Yes, he is a RC priest...there was an article posted in the Nipawin paper (Journal perhaps)...it may still be online...it had a description based on what he was praying at the time too.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the biggest MB walleye may be 39", but this record was recorded as weight.

It's about high time I tied into another MA walleye...sigh.

Its all true boys, Im from sask and my hardcore buddy actually drilled the hole for that priest.  THe next week, the priests dad caught a 14 lb, same hole.  The fish was mounted and he sold it last year on auction- not sure if on ebay- and sent proceeds to help with tsunami relief.  Tobin and Long lake are Sasks biggest eye lakes, but you guys get the red, lake of the prairies, tramping, and who knows where else.  Least we get some of LOTP, not all the glory gets to go to you guys
