Fingers crossed
« on: Dec 08, 2022, 07:03 AM »
Extended forecast is starting to look promising around here the week before Xmas... both TWC and AW have been trending temps downward in the monthly past the 15th over the past few days. 🤞🤞🤞

Took the 23rd off work to fish... forecast looks even better now than it did last week.

What part of the state are you in? I’m by Peoria. That week after Christmas should be a go for around here!

Iroquois County, right on the Indiana border.

Forecast for next week just keeps getting better every day. I already have off the 23rd... if most of my usual fishing ponds are skinned over good by Monday afternoon and this forecast holds I may go ahead and take the 22nd as well.

Supposed to be fairly calm Sunday night into Monday morning here. Thinking I may be out poking around Wednesday, definitely Thursday.

The week after Christmas is looking good now, hope the winds stay down so we get a good skim on the lakes.

There was skim over a couple small ponds here yesterday, and the temp is still dropping... I'm gonna be yanking gills before Xmas.

Be go time here in a few days. 3 of the 5 ponds I just re-checked are 100% skimmed over. Biggest one is about 1/3 ice covered and the last one was about 50%

crazy weather forecast for here in WC IL, knox/fulton/warren counties where i fish.
single digit temps coming for several days, high winds and minus 25 wind chills AND possibly 6 to 10 inches of snow wednesday night/thursday!
not sure what ice conditions will be next week. then forecast says low 40s and rain heading into new years

It was about 15° before I went to bed last night and 9° shortly before sunrise this morning. Sitting at 17° clear and calm right now with a forecast high of 28, then back down around 20 overnight.

Hoping the majority of that snow misses us... forecasts right now are running 4-8" here, depending on the source. I'm gonna go out after work to poke around the ponds that froze up earliest on Saturday to see how it looks.

Next week doesn't look good at all after Tuesday... gonna be a short first round of ice  :-\

Not quite yet... thickest spot I found today was about 2.5" and most of it was around 2.

It’s looking like Monday for me around Peoria area. Was gonna go Sunday but apparently it’s Christmas and the wife said I can’t go. 🤷‍♂️🤪

See if your wife is open to celebrating Christmas on the ice.  Start new traditions.

I'll be going whenever the wind settles down. 15-20mph is about my upper limit to fish.

Still had about 2" on a couple ponds I poked at yesterday afternoon... very soft ice from it being near 40° and sunny, though.

Still about 2.5" today... fished over a little shallow flat for 20-30 minutes after work. Saw a few gills through the ice, but they wouldn't touch anything.

Weather turned on a dime here around 1130. Very windy and the temp is dropping like a rock, but it hasn't snowed much of yet.

*added at 635pm*  making some ice now

On my way home from work, started truck 8 degrees.  When I got home 17 miles away 1 degree.   Think we had a little front go thru.  I did get a report from someone I know that there was 4.5" on a shallow area he checked so if the wind lets up I will try and get out this weekend, sometime.

Bit nippy out this morning. We didn't get much snow here... hard to really tell with all the wind, but I'd say less than 2" of fluffy powder.
