An aberdeen hook is a light wire hook which has an extra width behind the point and shank to hold minnows.

As for what aberdeen means ?  Dont know, but there is a town down the JErsey shore named Aberdeen .. i always asumed someone had invented the hook there and thats how it got its name .... whether thats true or not .. who knows.
