I also fished for a couple hours in the morning yesterday. Kept more than enough gills for breakfast. Got a couple keeper perch too.

don't over think it, a small firetiger patern jig and three to four spikes should do the trick.  If you want to get fancy a swedish pimple tipped with a shiner's head- good luck

Fished on the 30th, inafternoon for 3 hrs or so.  Ice was 4' solid straight out in middle of harbor.  Managed over 30 perch - 8 keepers over 9' with one 10' being the biggest.  Used fresh emeralds.  Camera showed many perch, bluegill, a calico a couple big largemouth, one small northern and one giant pike that made everything scatter.  There were a few smelt around, not a bad day for SBH>

I'm heading out there tomorrow it's my first trip out for the season. I've heard a lot of talk about staying to the left and avoiding the area by the pier I'm just trying to confirm the reports

Went down today to check things out. They were fishing by the long dock in front of Dug's Dive. 1 hut was outside of the marina.

I have been out to the SBH three times this year so far and today was the worst. No wonder why a friend of mine calls it the zoo. All kinds of open ice and people want to set up less than 15 ft away from you and they break out their new power augers and have to drill 5-10 holes to check it out. Please remember to use a little common courtesy and sportsmanship. OK, getting off my soap box now, tight lines everyone.

I was out yesterday too. Had to move just cause these three guys set up right on top of us practically.  And the gas augers are a little over kill!!

Gotta get yourself about 8 cheap tipups and surround yourself with em and just stick em in the hole u dont even have to set em just use em like posted signs...if your spot aint posted the herd will crowd right in

Have any of you guys fished sand piles or union ship canal? Curious about access and it's right around the corner?

I fished unuin ship before they redid it it should be safe by now but dont trust my word and the sand piles are usually ready around the same time as the boat harbor but watch the edges there always sketchy
And so it begins........

If you try the sandpiles be wary of where you drill holes, any sand on or in the ice and it will take about 3 holes before you destroy your auger blades.
