Title: 4x4 Hours When Ice Fishing
Post by: _colorado on Nov 23, 2022, 06:20 PM
Hi All

I just moved to East Gull Lake, Minnesota from Colorado two months ago and I am trying to understand the regulations for 4x4's.  I picked up the OHR/OHV Handbook at the DMV today while registering my 4x4.  While standing in line I read part of the manual and it said 4x4 hours on roads were 1/2 hour before/after sunset.  Does that hold true for ice fishing into the night or early morning?  I can understand the hours regulation for roads and trails but it doesn't make a lot of sense when on the ice. I would hate to leave a good bite right after sunset.

Appreciate any advice/input.

Thanks a bunch and Happy Thanksgiving!

By 4X4, I'm going to assume you are talking about a side by side or 4 wheeler or something. Lakes aren't considered roads or trails, so no worries there. The only thing to be aware of is that a lot of lakes get included in the snowmobile trail systems, so just keep an eye out for that. Every once in a while someone sets up on said trail and gets hit by a drunken snowmobiler. The trails aren't marked, but you will see a general hardpack trail where the snowmobiles cross the lakes.

Yes, 4-wheeler.  Thanks for the input Tom.  Makes sense to me and thanks for the reminder about lake snowmmobile trails.
