Coyote on Ice.

Drove by the Alcove Reservoir on 32 this morning and saw this coyote standing out on the middle of the ice. It headed for shore by the time I snapped a pic.

That would be cool...a coyote crappie fishing. How do they drill the hole.  ;D

We have them on several bodies of water here in Colorado. They sometimes come pretty close, looking for an easy meal. Not good when they no longer fear humans.

Ive seen yotes on the ice early morning before. Normally i see evidence of them on the ice over actually seeing them. coyotes chase the deer onto the ice, where they have better traction, and then kill the deer out there. you'll find a small amount of remains left and blood splatter/ hair. They always polish the deer off i rarely find much left

Set up your portable, buy a live chicken from a local farmer & stake it out on the ice. 1-3 boxes of shells is almost too much fun. The same can be done in a clearing in the woods with a few guys & portable deer stands ;)

Don't have a problem with coyotes. They serve a purpose. And I love they way they sound at night. They kill because they have to to eat not because they are bad.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

I’ve found deer kills on the ice. It’s wild for sure!

I try to leave nothing behind, but I've seen 'em out checking my holes for leftovers when I was still only 75 yards away on my way back to shore.

They've learned lots of fishermen leave behind old bait, lunch scraps, etc.  Can't blame them for taking advantage of opportunities.

I don't mind coyotes except for the amount of game they eat.  They can eat an ungodly amount of deer/rabbits every month and that cuts into my food supply.  Eliminate the competition if you want food, because it will balance itself out and you will be the one going hungry if you don't swing the balance.

We need more coyotes around here. Deer are overpopulated and eating everyone's vegetable gardens. I lose a few hundred $ of produce to deer every year. I don't know anyone whose garden has been damaged by coyotes.

They wait for you to leave then use the same hole until it freezes.

I've seen them on several bodies of water here in western NY state. They come out  and scavenge for left over bait and dead fish. I've when seen them in the small boat harbor in buffalo, 2 minutes from downtown.
There is a nature preserve right across the thruway and it's loaded all day with people walking trails and watching deer and beaver, that have no idea there's tons of coyotes hiding there too.

I see them all the time when we're fishing there. Way off the road though.

no. consider it a failed attempt at being funny.  Before 9/11 it wasn’t as big a deal and i fished it a couple of times but i was too paranoid to enjoy it. I’ve heard of others ice fishing it and doing well

I know of someone who has relatives that back up to it on a part that's not visible from the road and they fished it with tipups and caught some very nice pike and walleye. They actually came on here a few days earlier and made a post asking for help for a brand new tipup fisherman then posted the pics. They weren't record fish but they were 24 inch plus walleyes and pike over 36. I've always said the city should license a couple guides with a no gas motor rule.
