Got our limits but over-stayed our welcome just a little. Took this pic early b4 the ice broke apart and we floated for 1/2 hour till the wind blew us into another sheet which we ran /jumped/ jumped some more till we reached shore. The rangers and firemen were waiting for us it was quite the spectacle!

The ice sheets were actually flowing over each other like a tectonic illustration. it was like- now or never water was squirting up thru cracks you could feel the ice cracking under our feet as it flowed over each other. Crazy stuff.

Crazy story and nice haul. Too bad about the ice since it looks like the golden schools have returned.

the ice where we were catching is all gone now. Brutal.

6" in the morning. it was fine till we started floating. Then it seemed not so thick.

You found the school and got schooled! At least it was local and rescue crews were waiting, they were prolly bummed that they didn't get to use their training rescuing a Polish popsickle.

You couldnt just sit on the edge of the ice and kick for propulsion?? Clearly that would have been the logical solution

I just now realized that I could use my new 18V Ridgid on my 7" Strikemaster Lazer as an ice sheet propulsion method if I ever needed to!

Plenty fast and plenty of power if necessary!

DAMN slayer be safe, had this happen to some friends at Flaming gorge a few years back . Scared the crap out of them and only one in that group still ice fishes.

This might be the new next level for the “Mario Brothers” game. Each perch under 12” would be worth a 1000 points, over 12” 5000 points. Seriously, very glad to read you made it off safely. No risk, no reward. I chickened out on the way out when I saw some ice beginning to crack that I was walking on. Turned around and went to work.

Me and a buddy floated on icebergs down the South Platte below Deckers years ago. We floated a good 1/2 mile. It was fun-

It did take a while after getting back to shore for my heart rate to normalize. No video, just another crazy story to tell the Grandkids.

Your name came up several times yesterday on our search for a safe way back. Dropshot left earlier before the excitement, it was Slayer and I ice trolling.
The rangers and rescue team just asked use if we were hurt and they went on their way.
Yeah I'm not planning any ice trips very soon.

Now that’s a trip, afraid to ask, but if you had to swim was there open shoreline to beach on? Glad it just turned out to be another great adventure to add to your story.
