I've got to say ice fishing is the most relaxing thing...don't get me wrong I love thespring and the fall and even the summer too...I love the fly rod thing and the trout bass stripers blues tuna albies and even steelhead and salmon if i have enough money... but the whole lay around the shanty mama thing...the peace and quiet the lack of bugs and phones and people...the augers and shanties and trophy baits...
I have even been making a sport of ice fishing during the worst possible nor easters...to me it is easier and more comfortable than this summer bullcrap. I was thinking about fishing the fresh today but hot humid buggy...when I was in Montana I fished every day..but in Mass I fish the salt. I want to fish the fresh but...It may have to wait till fall or first ice.
Ice used to be my off season where I relaxed...no longer...I look forward to ice like I look forward to june and September.

I was at the tackle shop this afternoon picking up some jigs for my trip next weekend, and a guy came in and asked to buy a new set of auger blades.  The clerk looked at him like he was from another planet haha. He must've been jonesing for some ice pretty bad.

You weren't the guy I out bid on the Genz jigs were ya. ;D

FYI

I also picked up some hand painted jigs called Perch Pounders.  I got 14 for for 13.48 on an out right buy, including shipping.  I really was suprised by the quality of these.  They sure did not looked dipped at any stage.  They were cast in a elongated triangle shape, and hang horizontally. I don't know if I've ever seen this much quality in an ice jig.  They are made by an outfit called Quality Ice Jigs.  They have an email of [email protected]

I don't have any allegiance to these guys what so ever.  I just think when folks produce a quality product it should be passed along as readily as product complaints.

I am also going to purchase their pounders in glow too.

Last year we were on the ice the day after Thanksgiving, and boy was I giving thanks!!!
Hope this year is the same... Went by the bait spot and threw a piece of bread in and it was like the water erupted. Can't wait for the new canister filter to come in...

I'm trying to keep myself sane before the ice hit. Been tuning up my gears, sanding down my traps, and reapplying varnish. Can't come any sooner! I hope the weather God treat us good this year. Safe ice to everyone!

First AMEN!

You mentioned "Fish Traps"  is that what you call tip-ups?  Different areas different terms, I'm just curious.
