Tip Up
Main line: 100 yds of your run of the mill tip up line
Barrel swivel: # 10
Leader: 8 feet of 10# seaguar fluorcarbon with a small split shot 16" above treble
Hook: Eagle Claw # 10 treble
Now I will be headed up to ADKS in NY (schroon Lake) and I know you cant use Icicles this year so what shold i use for Bait and how should i hook it? I plan on fishing them just under the ice but how far down? If you guys could critique my set up and/or give pointers I would appreciate it.

id try a number 8 eagle claw bait hook for salmon fishing and id set my traps four to ten feet below the ice with a smelt or shiner hooked behind the top fin on the top of the fish this setup usually works for me

Hey thanks for the info on the set up. I cant wait to get up there in a few weeks and try it out. I will try the bait hook as well as the treble.

Small is the word . I use 4 pound test florocarbon leaders with barrel swivel size 16 treble hook s , bb sinkers leader lenghts anywhere from 2 to 6 , cup bait or the smallest med shiners i can get . works for browns and rainbows trout as well same program. set everything under the ice have caught alot of salmon with leaders as short as 1 ft under ice

I've ice fished for salmon all over the Northeast. Those fish in Schroon are the toughest. Go light with the leader, fish it a bit deeper than usuall, maybe 6 or 8 feet down with a leader that long, strictly flouro. You just want to let your swivel off the spool but still hidden in the hole if the ice is deep. There are some nice fat salmon in that lake, bright and shiny too, not like the dark ones in some of the more colored lakes to the east. You also never know when you are going to catch a pike. We don't target them but catch an occasional one (or snap off a probable) on a set close to shore.
