Jaw jacker dead bait pike
« on: Feb 01, 2018, 02:35 PM »
Was curious if anyone had any luck with jaw jackers for pike using larger deadbait? Curious about if the hooking percentage is decent using bigger baits like smelt or hotdogs

i would think a quick strike rig would be in order there.
real fishermen don't ask "where you catch those"

The YouTube guys today’s angler use the automatic fishermen, and they get good luck with skin hooking the bait just in front of the dorsal. Keep the drag loose enough for it to run.

Definitely. I'll be playing with this as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies, scheels has some pretty stiff medium action rods for 10 bucks got me thinking of building a couple diy jawjackers just wanted to see if it would be worth my time. And yes river_scum definitely will be using a quick strike rig

I love jaw jackers.  Just make sure your rods are not too stiff, they must bend down on the set up.  Jaw Jacker makes rods in sizes for smaller fish and larger fish that have a good flex to them.

Ugly stick rods also work very well with the JawJacker.  Just do not put a high end rod in one d/t could cause it to break.  I have 2 and really like them.  Mainly use for panfish and trout.  Nez

No good results from the derby.....
I had 2 "hits", one on dead bait and one on a live shiner....neither hit set off the jaw jacker, I believe it is because I
spooled my reel with braided line and the line froze in the ice that formed in the hole.
My other reel has mono and did set the hook two years ago when the line was frozen in the hole.
I think I'll switch to mono for my next pike attempt with the jaw jacker.
