How do you get it all on the ice ??
« on: Nov 27, 2006, 04:07 AM »
How do you get your gear out to your favorite ice fishing hole?? Atv, snowmachine, car, truck, foot, sled, etc.

I will be hauling this by hand when ever I go out.

When I'm fishing with a large group, we load up two or three dog sleds,

I also have a jet sled I haul behind my snowmobile when it's just me and another person.
Most of us have a basket and rack on the back of the sled for an auger and bait bucket.

Last year I had just used bunji straps to secure all my gear down to the sled base..I noticed it was putting a lot of pressure on the floor so this year I bought a big rubbermaid bin to keep the gear from getting wet and disorganised. Plus with double what I had dragged out last year, I just had no room. I really like my set-up this year :D should snap a few photo's after...

Last year..everything on top of the Clam

LOL... Yeah, early ice with Bob D and my friend Steve. Not thick enough to drive on then. We were on Champlain in VT, they allow you 15 tip ups per man :o :o :o... That translates into a lot of gear and a TON-O-BAIT  ;D

I load everything on my sled, then when the wife isn't paying attention, I slip the rope around her waist.  Then I  give her a good smack on the a$$ and say "You know I think your sister's right, you are fatter than she is."  I then proceed to run as fast as I can to where I want to set up, praying that she doesn't catch me.  Here's the important part, I have be sure she is out of energy when we get there.  If there are any doubts I make a few more laps, the worst thing I can do is untie her when she still has an ounce of energy left. This is also good for getting pick-ups out of the mud and pulling out old tree stumps.

Darkhouse thanks for the laugh.  That was a good'un  ;D

Jet sled works for me whether pulling by hand or behind the truck.  My bud just got a new one though and its way bigger than mine.  We actually floated half and elk in the thing!  That was over 200lbs so at 185lbs I could use the darn thing as an emergency boat! (good excuse for a purchase I think)  Think I may have to upgrade soon :)
I fish therefore I AM!

I got myself a nifty little ice traveling machine. 24 speed mountain bike, hydro disc brakes for the cold weather. studded tires. I can really crank around on it, pulls a sled just fine, and I have used it in 12 inches of new snow and didnt get stuck. when the snow is heavy it gets a little iffy though.

The shack goes out by truck and the gear by sled unless its too cold, then its by truck.
