DeWalt Power Drill opinion needed
« on: Dec 17, 2022, 10:55 AM »
Hi,  I have a gas powered ice auger but am looking at buying a DeWalt Power drill .  The manager at my local Fin/Fish/Fur store said a lot of guys are going with using a DeWalt Power Drill with adapter and bottom part of hand auger. He said get at least a 20V DeWalt or other good brand name. Can someone give me their opinion, pros and cons and if the  20 V is enough ?   Thanks for any advice

Go to the "Equipment" topic on this site. Plenty of info there to answer any questions you have.

I use a Dewalt 20v Max with a 8” Strike Master auger. It cuts through ice with ease. Make sure you use at least a 5ah battery and the attachable handle. I run and gun and never run out of power drilling up to 25 holes through 12” of ice. Be careful with the trigger it go too fast at times. My gas powered Jiffy 30 just collects dust now all I use is the Dewalt.

I agree with all drills listed here but the Dewalt has a auxiliary hande that is superior than all others. All of the drills listed will have the power needed to run all of the augers that are hand and drill powered.

My Ryobi P251 has served me well. 750#
with 4 amp batteries and auxiliary handle. Turns an 8" SM Lazer with no trouble at all. Also have a Bosch HDS181A at 600#. Use it primarily to drive shelter anchors. No need to swap anchor/auger adapters. Best of both worlds.

I have a dcd 996. It’s the second one I’ve had so far, chuck and casing broke on the first. Originally mated to a kdrill, got a lite flite and it cuts much better. I try to run my 9ah battery as much as possible.
