How's the ice?
« on: Dec 06, 2006, 07:56 AM »
Anyone know how the ice is in the Polk/Barron County area?  Plan on going out tomorrow around Turtle Lake area and was just wondering if there is good ice up there.  I don't care which lake I just need to get out

I not sure about that area but since its further north than Menomonie and we have been out my thoughts would be they have more ice up there.

Been great but getting anxious to get out.  Haven't seen you on the board lately where you been?  Did you go out to ND with Doug hunting geese?  Maybe we can get together this winter for a day and have a couple beers together.

I've been around. Been busy with work and just didn't get the itch till late. Did alot of hunting this fall (more than usual even) so its been nuts.
Yeah, Doug and I went out there again. Had 3 great days then it froze up and we resorted to drinking the last few days and came back a day early. We should definitely try and meet up sometime this year. Find a hot spot and some cold beer  ;)

I was walking on 4" of good ice on some smaller lakes in northern St. Croix county last saturday. There has to be that or better going north.

Sounds good.  Shouldn't have any trouble walking out.  I guess we'll just drive around and check things out and stop when it looks good.  Thanks for the info.

I keep meaning to get up there but something always comes up.

I am home today. Maybe I will run up there in a bit to see.

OK. Just got back from Lake George. A good 5-6" of ice. I walked out towards the middle.

It looks like there has only been one other person up there. There were some holes cut. There were also car tracks on the ice right at the landing as if someone drove out and turned around.

The car tracks didn't end at a hole in the ice did they?  ;)

even if there is over a 12" of ice that landing is not safe, father in law put the back end threw with that much the current comes threw there. man that takes some cahoonas.

I was over at the day use area. The good landing.

I won't ever drive off on the other side. Ever.

I'm looking for some good lakes around Rhinelander.  I have an interview up there and I could soon move up there.  Any good lakes?

Was up at Staples yesterday along with a couple smaller lakes and we had around 6".  Bone and Ash should be about the same.

Did you go to the bar/grill on the North (I think) end of the lake? They have got awesome food there!

Don't know which one you're talking about.  The Staples Lake bar across from the boat landing is under new management.  We stopped in and had a couple beers but never ate there.  We always stop at the County Line bar, it's a couple miles north of Staples on Cty G.  GREAT food and real nice people running it.
