Calckin raps - rat'l'trap etc..
« on: Jan 24, 2012, 04:31 PM »
Anyone of you use a rat-l-trap, clackin' rap or any thing similar for mainly bass
Though i may end up at places that have any of the  3 pickerel pike walleye...?

If so what size?
Color?

I was going to pick a 2½ rapala calcin rap but, rather then wasting the money I figured i would find out if it was worth it.
Next time you go to cwood let me know how many fish you didnt catch.

I use the small (1.5  inch) and 3 inch Lindy rattlers.  I have good results with big perch on the small ones (tip with part of a minnow). I use the big one to stir things up in my tip up holes when it gets slow. When I check the tip ups I jig the hole for a minute of so and then put the minnow back down. Good results on attracting Northerns, but they usually wait for the minnow rather than hit the rattler.

I use lipless live targets, and at times they can be extremely deadly.  My favourite is the Golden Shiner, but have also had success with the Gizzard Shad.  I have caught on every size (1/4oz - 3/4oz).  My 2 biggest walleye this season have come on 3/4 oz targets.

I have had really good luck with the Golden Shiners as well. They seem to come from all over to check it out. More look than bite, must be something I'm doing wrong. Hardly wait for open water.

Let the good times roll!

These lipless cranks do a better job of just calling the fish in instead of getting them to bite.  Throw a differrent lure down quick.  ;D

I think they work pretty good for walleyes in certain situations.

Although my favorite use for these is wipers on the softwater ;D
