Goals for 2009-2010 Season?
« on: Nov 24, 2009, 02:15 PM »
Just thought it would be interesting to see what peoples goals are for this season.

I'm looking to target eyes in Wherspann & Zorinsky.  I'm not much of a trophy hunter so size doesn't matter as long as they are legal.  I just want to get some meat in the freezer.  I'd also like to learn how to catch cats through the ice and maybe get up to the Sandhills once or twice for some yellow perch.

Started keeping logs 2 years ago:

25 days on 5 different lakes 2 years ago, 27 days on 12 different lakes last year, so my main goal for this year is 28 days or more on the ice, and 13+ lakes would be a bonus.

I've been skunked one time each of the last 2 years, i would like to not have that happen this year.

I'm going to try and hit public water for crappie and 'eyes a lot more. I've gotten lazy because I had a couple of "sure thing" ponds I had access to -- until they both had some really bad winterkill. It sucks when you show up after iceout and find literally thousands of 9-10 inch bluegill, 12 inch crappie and 3-4 lb. bass washed up on shore!

Being somewhat new to the State my goal is simple, find fish! I was feeling sorry for myself so I refreshed some gear this year and cant wait to get out and rip lips!
Teach a kid to fish and hunt and they will be resourceful, smart and confident. Today's world is much different than the one I knew as a child. They need these skills even more than I did.

My annual goals have not changed in several years.

Cut on one new lake / year.

Expose at least one new person to ice fishing.

Life goal. Catch a 2 lb. pan fish of each of these species (bluegill, crappie, perch) through Nebraska ice.

So far I've been successful with the first 2 every year. Close but no cigar on the last one.

I'll be happy to just walk on some ice this year.
