Anybody try to get their Milwaukee drill repaired after you smoke it? Is it cost effective to try?
-
Which model?
-
Phone call.
I've' got a blue car with a green roof making a weird noise somewhere near the right rear front.
What's wrong with it and how much to fix it?
But I don't want to bring it in unless I know how much it'll cost.
Sorry but I deal with this every day in my work!

I work for an electrical contractor and we have guys fry the tools all of the time. We use Fastenal to repair them at about 30-50% of the cost of a new one. Works out good for us and they do Milwaukee

Thank you! I will have to check that out. I thought that so many use the m18 fuel that there would be a few that fried them

I believe you missed the tongue in cheek I posted.
Is it a newer or older one?
If newer it "maybe" under 5 year warranty?
If it's older it maybe to old to even get parts?
Is it a brush or brushless version?
If brushed it maybe only brush's or armature or both?
Most likely an economical repair.
If brushless and not under warranty it more than likely is not worth repairing!
You wouldn't know until you bring it in and let a service center look at it.

My group has fried 3 of them now, including one this weekend. two 2700's and one 2800 series. Under warranty you get a replacement real quick, the 2700s I suppose could go to a repair shop but why? 120 out the door for a new one and new warranty, if you get 5 years out of one for $120 turning an ice auger I think thats a good deal.. no sense at throwing good money at bad at that point. Sell it on ebay or market place as broken/smoked and take $25 for it towards a new drill. In no way would I spend 40% ($50) to have it repaired, not with using an ice auger and all the torque and abuse it puts on a drill.
They have a 5 year warranty

Knowing the above as well as the drills model number would be quite helpful to this thread ..maybe time to just upgrade with a bare tool ..not all Milwaukee drills are created equal or up to the cordless drill and auger task.

Its a 2017 2704-20 brushless 18v hammer drill alot of fisherman have been using for a few years and was the recommended drill with the high torque.

I am running a refurbished 2704 on a Clam Plate/8" K-Drill/HT E-Drill since the 2017/2018 season with no issues ..since the 2704-20 drill has been discontinued not certain what Milwaukee will do for you ..hopefully give you a replacement ASAP .

You can buy part s for them here: https://www.ereplacementparts.com/milwaukee-270420-m18-fuel-hammerdrill-parts-c-131_14946_508418.html (https://www.ereplacementparts.com/milwaukee-270420-m18-fuel-hammerdrill-parts-c-131_14946_508418.html)
If you can't get it done on warranty it will be cheaper to buy a new drill if its a motor or gear box.

You are still under warranty. Just call them up and say you need to file a warranty claim. Theyll email you a label and RMA and you can ship off the drill.. if it's smoked they probably wont repair it, they'll most likely send you a new 2804.

Well I have yet to see a 2704 "smoked"?
If it's only a 2017 should be under warranty.
Drop it off at your nearest Milwaukee authorized service center or here,

I put my 4 1/2 yr old Fuel in the Fed X ground drop box on Monday morning and had it back Saturday morning of the same week. They fixed things I didn’t know were even bad. Great service!
