I'm still waiting a bit as it's been warmer than usual so ice has been slow to form for us in Yellowknife.
A lot of our lakes had 2" to 4" of ice on them, and then we had a foot and a half of snow!!! There is tons of overflow on those lakes now, plus the snow is insulating it making ice form more slowly. >:(
I may head out this weekend for a few hours (after this weeks ice thickness report comes out).
I'm really not looking forward to walking through knee deep slush though. :'(
Maybe it won't be that bad (:pray:).

We were up in the helicopter last week and you could see HUGE HUGE holes on the ice where the water has been pushed up through from the snw weight.. lots of grey snow which means SLUSH.... We gotta get rid of some of this snow before it's tightens well.. it's been -20 here in Simpson the last week.. so surely that would of helped some!!

Hey Terry I was going to go today for a couple of hours but am having difficulty willing myself out the door. ::) It's currently -30 with a brisk wind the chill is -40 :woot: Heck I even have all my stuff ready to go and the 4 stroke yammie sled is plugged in, I guess I'm just a wuss!! LOL This is the first real cold snap of the season and it will take a week or so to get used to the cold. The real bulk of our ice fishing is done in the spring when the days are longer than 4 hours and warmer. I will be doing some serious fishing when I have 2 weeks off later this month though.
On a warmer note I'm heading to Calgary this week for a few days and it's supposed to be above freezing!! :o
Sorry about that, maybe our Fort Simpson contingent has something for us?
Besides Phill is younger than I am and probably more ambitious. Getting old sucks!!! :'(
I am building some new rods so that will have to keep me going for another week.

This is a pond we are catching bait in. Pic taken 3 weeks ago and had 3" of black ice then. Now there is 6" and we are cutting holes jigging bait.

Nothing from me yet, I've been too busy with work lately, All my gear in on the sled and ready I just gotta find the time to go it's tough with short day light right now so I think I agree and I'll wait it out a bit longer for some more sun light!!!
And man she's chilly here today hahaha
it's been consistent -20's + the wind chill the passed couple weeks
lots of ice.. i just gotta get out.
Good news... here in Town the Mckenzie actually froze Smooth, I guess that doesn't happen too often. It will be great for getting around. to some news spots much easier travels

Yes I'm sure Whitefish-slayer is growing more hair in the nether regions to combat the frigid Temps.....-36 is cool.

My new ski-doo hasn't let me down yet, they guaranteed one pull start everytime.. i've gone out on the coldest mornings yet after it sitting outside all night, 1 pull... starts right up....
I've gotta hit the hard water soon... I'm drving on ice here and my buddies in NB are still driving boats and duck hunting

You're right there Terry. We have had below normal temps for the last month. :(
The weather guys keep giving us hope that it will warm up enough to have an enjoyable day.
The weather guys have been promising that it will warm up, always next week.
They have been dangling the warm weather just out of reach like a carrot on the end of a stick.
Supposedly it will be a balmy -24C tomorrow, so it's fishin' time, maybe.
They are calling for warm temps starting the middle of next week.................. .......probably anoyher carrot. >:(
We are now measuring the ice in feet!!! If only it would warm up. :'(

I just got in from a 2 day trip. No big fish but I had fish and chips two days in a row. ;)
I see why you won't pitch your tent on the lake anymore. ::)
I'll post a report tomorrow as I'm worn out right now.
