Yeah everyone thinks you have to have minnows or worms or some sort of dead-sticked bait. It seems like their eyesight may not be the best. They come in and settle on the bottom and watch. They're always pretty close to our spoons, so I think they either smell or feel the jig. I figured out after a while that if I can get that jig right in front of them they will almost always hit it! We just put a maggot on each hook of the treble and then put some of that shrimp glow scent on the spoon. It seems to work ok for us.  ;)

Awesome video thanks!
That was crazy how they came running in that one group n then scattered liked they spooked then came back and was fighting over the spoons. That normal for them to do that ? Fun to watch that in person n have the rod in your hands!

It kind of depends on the barometric pressure and how they are acting. Sometimes they are so turned off that you can't even get them to look at you. As we get later in the season they tend to perk up a little. They are getting more aggressive as we go. Last year by this time we only had about another week of safe fishing on that lake. I see the forecast for Saturday is a high of -10 F. so we stand to have a good bit of hardwater fishing left. Before getting the camera I wondered how many fish really were around on any given day. Now I know. I can tell you it's a heck of a lot more than we hook! The camera is definitely addictive. ;)

That had to be frustrating as all get out having them come so close, but not committing. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions, as you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to set the hook. Really good video!

cool video sra61, thanks for posting it. :)
It's neat to see burbot and trout in the same area, around here most of our burbot lake have pike, perch, walleye.

That was sure super clear water, you could see the school coming for a long ways off.
Interesting to see once the burbot showed up the trout left, probably a good idea. :P

I have also found that burbot tend to use their great sense of smell with that whisker on their chin and lateral line a bit more than their eyes, if they feel it and it smells right it's lunch.
