Fly reels
« on: Nov 28, 2018, 11:29 AM »
Howdy,
Anyone else use fly reels for their ice rods? I started a few years ago on my longer noodle rods. Since I fly fish I have an abundance of them I can convert for hard water. Just paired my redington zero on a Mitchell. The zero is one of the lightest on the market and is click and prawl. Likeing this combo feel and should be a good trout rod this winter. Getting too anxious...ha.

Yep used em. No problem except hard to fit in rod bag with other rods lol.  So...quit using em.

Wow, I never thought about doing this! Might have to give it a try on a couple of my pike setups. Thanks ftwwalleye. Cool idea.

you can use them for tip ups too, if close enough to hear it, or rig a flag/bell.  short piece of PVC or coffee can with stick over the top.

Check out "small fly reels" on ebay. They have some really nice ones.
There is nothing in the world I'd rather do than ice fish!

I tried the fly reels but once I got a reel with free fall I would never go back.
