Starting to think about april trout season- maybe up in the narrow hills area
should be more then enough ice for a long time
-
Let us know how it goes. I fish Narrow hills quite a bit but have not done so in April. Curious as to how thick the ice will be in April because I am done finals on the 12th and would love to go after that! Perhaps a week too late then depending on weather
-
I fully expect to be ice fishing opening day of the season
-
Been thinking about that myself. Where do you stay in that area?
-
Last day of trout was April 29 last season for me. Small trout lakes I frequent actually had better ice last year. This year I'm finding the smaller lakes have some poor ice on top followed by a thick layer of slush over top of good ice that isn't as thick as the slush free ice last year. Time will tell what the weather brings.

I made a $50 bet today with a friend that most lakes will still have enough Ice to punch holes on opening day in May

Agreed Farmboy! I remember a few years back taking a quad out on Marean in May to fish it. I'm sure we could have taken a truck out but didn't risk it. It was plus 19 that day!

I have always wanted to try for trout in April, but, have been cautious about the deteriorating ice.
If we have a cold start to April might give it a try, still undecided. :-\
Have any of you ever tired Lady Lake in April, and if so, how did you make out? ???

We usually go once or twice in April, usually end up snagging a few! Bows and Tigers that is!

Sounds good. Thanks bite-me7. :)

Lots of options around Narrow Hills, The Russian outfitters are located where you turn in to Moosehorn. There rental cabins are about a mile south on #106. I understand that one of there cabins is just big enough for a couple of bunks and is rented very reasonable. At the south end of Little Bear, you have the Little Bear Resort. They rent light house keeping rooms upstairs in the chalet. Caribou Creek at the south end of the park have motel rooms for rent, but let them know ahead of time as there not always prepped. Flyboy

all excellent options in on elf the most beauty areas off sk
the Russians are called Siberian outfitters just fyi. they do bear hunts also. back to the bears lol
-
Thanks for the info, flyboy!

I've never fished stocked trout in April before. Can anyone tell me if the 2017/18 license still good for this or do I need to purchase my 2018/19 first? Thanks.
-
You will need to purchase a 2018/19 license.
-
My license says it’s valid until April 15 so you have a couple of weeks until you need to buy a new one.
-
Yeah, thanks for the correction! I’m sure last year it expired on March 31st. The way it’s looking well-be trout fishing until end of April!
-
I just checked mine and noticed the April 15th validity as well. Think I'll call the SE office to be sure.
-
Just buy your 2018/19 license now. That way you are sure to be legal!
-
Is the Esker Road snowmobile only this time of year?
-
This year it would be.

Anybody in the Prince Albert area going out for trout? I'll be heading out for some this week if anybody is around and wants to come along.
-
Im game if it works with my schedule as well

Wondering how travel on the lake is? Truck? Sled?
-
i just walked out didn't pay much attention to the launch. snow is deep at the shore but once you're on the lake it was easy going. plenty of snow for a sled still though. if you phoned up they could probably tell you if you could get a truck on.

Anyone have any experience with Brown trout through the ice?
-
anyone try Sealey?
or any ice reports for Narrow Hills?
Thanks! might try and get out this Saturday - hoping to drive on Sealey but wondering how much slush is on the ice.
-
Heard sealey is slushed right up. Lots of ice, no worries there.
-
We are heading up to Sealy Saturday am, through Sunday, staying over at Little Bear. See you guys up there, pulling a yamaha sled with a ram 4x4. Flyboy
-
heard most of the lakes up there slushed up
I bet still okay to fish as long as you want to stand in water in hip waders
draining gas from auger tmrw am. she's done
-
we will be using the augers on May 5 I bet
-
i'm going somewhere on sunday...just not sure where yet. hopefully don't need the hip waders!
