I'm new to the site and new to the great state of Wisconsin. Not much ice where I came from in Maryland. Moved to Kiel, WI last April. New at the ice fishing stuff but am enjoying the learning process. So far I've only caught 3 small rainbows, but you would have enjoyed seeing my dance on the ice when I landed the first one. Namvet

I'm one of those "bow only freaks" Nothing against gun guys, I just had a "hot round" zip buy my head close enough to hear it. (hunting public land) I hung up the deer rifle right then and there. If I wanted to get shot at I would have enlisted!! ;D
-
I guess I am spoiled. I hunt private land, 30 miles south of Superior.I drive right past you on my way up north. Well at least you answered my question.

Sorry didn't see your message. I started building an 8x8 permanent. It's pretty much done now. 3/4" plywood floor, stick framed with 2x4" wannabees (i actually started with 2x2s but added another layer.) Added the second layer of studs so i could do 3 1/2" fiberglass insulation. 10,000 btu propane heater. Barn red in color!
I just bought a Frabill Prowler GT 2 person flip over a month ago. Can't wait to use all this stuff!!!

Yeah, I hear you about the eerie whizzing sound..... but we don't enlist to get shot at either, but it does happen. Unless I die, I'll always hunt gun season. Guess I'm the opposite of you, only gun hunt, and I gonna give pistol hunting a go. I really don't see the appeal of bow hunting... I tried a few years back, what a waste, I could have spent that money on some good ice fishing gimmicks instead. I guess it's just not deer hunting to me unless I smell gunpowder and hear the loud bang.
TIBS (Justin) from Fox Lake checking in, again.
Tainterslayer: Barn Red Shack!!!! I love it, that's what I painted mine too! Did you go all out and put white trim on it too?
-
I was thinking about it but I'm sick of spending money on it and just want it to be done! So it probably won't happen. Chances are it would just look funny too. Might try to sell it next year and then build one that could literally serve as a small cabin.
-
Jared from Ellsworth (curd town) checking in.

Yeah, I hear you about the eerie whizzing sound..... but we don't enlist to get shot at either, but it does happen.
A shout out to you, and all the Service men & women who "stand between their loved homes and wars desolation" I meant no disrespect buy that comment.
Good luck to ya with the pistol, that would be kinda cool! (I'll leave a few of 'em in the woods for you 'gun boys ;D)
Well, keep your holes clean, lines tight, and flags in their upright position!!

No offense taken. ;) 4 yrs ago, That was the longest year of my life.... At least I got a 2 week leave to come home and get some ice fishing in late in the season.
The pistol thing will be interesting this year, considering I've never shot any handgun larger than 9mm before I got this .44 mag. It's one big piece of stainless steel, so far when I've been on the range with it, I'm having trouble holding it steady enough to get consistent good shots, gonna have to use a shooting stick this year. The thing weighs about 3 lbs loaded.

Jeff, do you fish with Bushland, Zweif. & Zimmerman?? This is Nick Gaudet. (Dan Bush's friend)
No, don't know any of them. I petty much fish alone in the winter. When I fish Wissota I'm mainly by Camp Kennwood I do go over by the View now and then. Most the people I know don't like the cold and think I'm crazy for sitting on the ice all day and in the summer some of them don't fish with me because I'm realy into CPR.
Where do you live? I live about 2 blocks from the Yellow River boat landing. PM me sometime and mybe we can go fishing together now and then.
Pray for ice,
Jeff

So what are you fishing? BD, Fox, And Lazy? What about Puck? or Emily? Or Big Green? Or the Winnebago Chain? Castle Rock? Petenwell? I usually just get to Fox and BD. (works out nice since I live right between them) I haven't fished Lazy for 3 years now, and don't plan too anytime soon. I try to get to Big Green a couple times a year to try to hoist out a laker. Petenwell once or twice a year. Fished Puck half a dozen times last year, did ok, never kept anything though. But after the walleye massacre and the late shad hatch, I'll probably pass on Puck this year. I'm too chicken to fish bago, ice is really shifty out there. Heard some good things about Poygan though, might have to give that a try this year. Used to fish Devils lake state park a few times a year too, can usually hoist at least one brown out of there per trip. Guy I work with keeps telling me I should check out Redstone for some crappies, maybe.

Lazy first ice, BD for a bit after that and then Fox the rest of the winter. I used to mix in a few trips to Little Green as well but thats been a few years too. Been probably 5 years since I hit Puckaway. My 1st outting of the year was today and it wasn't impressive.

-
Mike from Lake Country in the SE part of the state. I stumbled in here last year; loved the info and was very impressed by the community. Wife was diagnosed with cancer for Christmas last year and ice fishing took a back seat. After an incredibly nasty surgery and some of the worst chemo known to man, she's still here and so far so good. Which means that life may be returning to normal. We'll see..........
I had intentions of broadening my horizons last year and I intend to follow that. I know that I can get all the info here I need on the stuff I don't know about.
Pleasure to be back,
HEY!!!!! FLAAAAAAAG!

Welcome to the site addict! Where do you like to fish?
Nick
-
Hey Nick!
I fish alot of different lakes. I fish some of the lakes off of 40, fireside etc. I fish upper long quite a bit and lac courte oreilles. Closer to home I fish wissota a couple of times a year along with glen loch once or twice at early ice. Depending on the year, I may fish marshmiller a time or two. I also have a list of lakes to try.
Nick, where do you like to fish?
Marty

Burnette Island for early ice. I hit a few of those lakes in the New Auburn area. Once it gets cold enough I'll stick a permy out on Altoona.
Nick.

Brunett Island is good for early ice I'll be up there next weekend if those warm temps do show up on Thursday and Friday if not then for sure the next weekend.

I have never fished altoona or brunett island, although brunett is on my to fish list along with a bunch of other lakes. I used to fish alma, fountain city, and trempleau alot before moving up to C F.

Don't let the location fool you on my profile, born and raised in Chippewa Falls, WI and I do almost all of my ice fishing in WI. I'm sure I will be on the WI thread most of the winter. Been on another forum for the last 4 years but spent enough time trolling on this site since the Smitty Sled brought me here last year, so I joined here. Some one in teh Chippewa area let me know when we have some walking ice. My main fishing buddy only goes out when he can drive on the ice.

hey north!!! where ya from?
-
I'm from Rice Lake.
I made it on the ice Sunday for a little recon... The ice is 2-3 inches, but after the 6" of white stuff, it's awful slushy and it's really creaky. All the weight from the snow and slush has made the ice too spooky for this cat... Hopefully with the lows in the single digits all week, we'll freeze up the slush and get back to making ice. I was really hoping to get out this coming weekend, but we'll have to see what happens with the slush...

Nope, sorry, don't fish Michigan. I'm on other sites but with a different handle.
Edit: anyone fish the Winnebago or Shawano areas much? Those are the spots I would call "home" if I had to. Maybe run into one of you guys sometime. Met a guy who used to post here years ago, think he went by Igor. He still around at all?

Glenwood City here. Just registered. Fish St Croix (not much), Dunn (little), Barron some and mostly Polk. Chomping on the bit to get out on Friday. Should be enough ice, but I'll know for sure come Friday afternoon.
BTW, awesome site - plan to spend some time here.
-
Ready for another year! Drinking beer in fort lauderdale FL right now, but will be back home to Wausau tomorrow. Expecting enough ice to start this weekend. This warm sunny beach stuff is kind of depresing. Pretty exited to see some ice!

Going out for northerns/ walleyes on sat hoping for more ice.

hd, let me know if you get back out there to check ice today. Working on a cottage in the area tomorrow and bringing my gear to hopefully get on the ice sunday morning. I did hear of a couple guys out in front of Kellogg's yesterday, caught some pike.
-
Ive heard that cecil bay on shawano lake will have plenty of fishermen this weekend definitely making ice today
-
All set to fish Lower Turtle Lake this afternoon (just sourth of Hiway 8). On west side, ice close to shore was maybe 4 inches. Lots of holes from guys testing the ice with spuds. Further out thinned fast. Could have fished it, but felt uncomfortable so will wait until next weekend. East side had less ice with very few test holes. No one fishing and don't think anyone has been.
Magnor Lake south of Clayton had people on the west side in the bays fishing - three, counting two portable shacks. East side didn't look good, and no test holes.
-
Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, Park Falls , Wi. Ice is on and should be good to go this weekend.

Here's a report on Turtle-Flambeau Flowage ice conditions. Our guests report good ice, 3"-4", in the Lake Bastine Region. Guide Bobby Orr emailed me that he is finding 6"-8" of ice near the Sturgeon Bay Landing. Walleye action has been slow, but will hopefully improve with the low pressure front moving in tonight.
-
good to hear vista :)
thought maybe would be bad hearing a sled already went through the ice up there LoL. knew at least one would do it this year like always :P
i doubt ill do any eye fishin up there this year with the 2 limit. gunna try and find the crappies again this year.
thanks for the report ^^ fishin was a little slow over here as well. still catchin but nothing fast and furious.

I'd like to say hi, just joined the forums this month - from Green Bay. Found you "guys" when I was trying to hook up my HDS unit to the Lowrance ice pack, great info found here! (Stuck a HDS7 unit into a dual battery PPP18i ice pack ;) )
Been searching the forums to see how ice is going say North of 64, doesn't seem all that great. Any further reports? (I'll keep an eye under the ice condition thread) ;D

I fish Wissota every once in a while for crappies and eyes. Glen Loch quite a bit but seems like a waste a time and a few lakes towards Jim Falls.

We'll be in the Montello and Madison areas mostly. I'll be the guy with the team Wi iceshanty.com patch on my jacket.

haha i actually fish near there quite often, its an amazing lake, i know everyone says its getting worse each year, but thats because alot of people are unwilling to move around a little bit, i actually think its gotten better!

New fishing buddies? Haha

Tons haha we could have just a western WI get together and I bet there is about 8 members that would show up at least. You can cover a lot of ground with 8 people.
-
Definitely liking your thinking! Am personally looking for a fishing buddy because my best bud lives over north of green bay now, most of the guys that fish with me just want me to take them to my honey homes and put then on fish and pretty much hold their hand, I'm done with that

Sounds like the beginning of a network. Divide and conquer different lakes, report info in network. Working together to makes us all better more successful fishermen. Thoughts?

Hey I'm Junior and I am from the Alma area.
I fish mostly on the backwaters of the Mississippi. I'm not too far from you Eau Claire boys. Would love to come over and fish some of the lakes over there.
-
Hey Junior,
A lot of good lakes up here, the main difference is mostly fishing deeper water, and bigger areas. Used to live down near the river, and fished mosemans, the turn around, along with spots by Fountain City, Winona, Trempleau, and Onalaska. You will have to come up some time and try it.

Have read a lot of stuff on this site over the last couple years but just decided to sign up now. I suppose I could be in the boat fishing on the river still but all I can think about is the hardwater. Hope we have a good season this year, get on the ice during deer season and the snow doesnt get too deep to make getting out later too difficult.

lakes are freezing up in the northern part! glad the massive snow storm has passed while the fresh ice is building now.. should be on the ice again before turkey day for 2nd year in a row.

Checked a local lake today, everything was iced over except the channel. I will take a spud bar tomorrow to check the thickness. I bet people are on that lake by Monday at the latest.

Well, this isn't really what I wanted to see at all. My buddy owns Bent's Camp in Land O Lakes and sent me these pics of this week. All totaled in the last 2 weeks, we've received 24-25" of snow already....which is bad because the lakes have frozen and a lot of snow has fallen on top of it. Looks like a nasty year of slush unless we can get that snow to melt off and re-freeze.

2 years ago I did well both open water, and hard water. Last year everything I caught was small, and fishing was slow. Have not fished it this year. There did seem to be a good year class of crappies that should be nice next year.

checking in from Fort Atkinson
Was up north bowhunting this past weekend and I have to cross a marsh area where there was open water last week.....3 inches of ice now. I almost went back to get my tip ups
With the weather this week I am definitely taking some tip ups and jig rods to deer camp. One of our stands is only 40 yards from a flowage....sit in my stand waiting on a deer and watch tip ups....can't think of a better day.
Good luck to all of the hunters!!

Checking in from Souther Oconto County. Reports of 2in of ice on the Falls pond and 3in on Shawano Lake! This light snow ain't gonna help....
Making more progress on my 8x12 shanty this week!

Any pic on that harry?

Not yet...
A neighbor sold his house and gave me the shack. Roof was poorly made so I replaced it. Inside is gutted and I will be insulating this week. New wood stove going in as well. Won't have it done to "perfect" standards this year, just hustling to get it warm and workable for this year. I plan on reworking the inside next summer when there is more time!

Love that lake. Greg Bohn put me on it years ago when Palmer was too slushy to get out on. I dropped my camera down and was amazed as to how clear Carroll is. Millions of perch.

Hoping that the 'casters are wrong about the rain on Sunday...... Get a deer opening day and then fish the next week! This doesn't happen that often. I haven't heard anything about ice in NE Wisconsin yet, but may venture up near Crivitz if I get my deer early. Good luck out there and stay safe! Don't forget your ice picks this time of the year.

New member, long time lurker. After living in Wisconsin for 11 years I have finally pulled the trigger and begun acquiring ice fishing gear. Just picked up a frabill flip over ice house and plan to grab a marcum showdown and a nils auger. Seen that Mills has Black Betty combos for $25 on black Friday so I plan to grab a few of those. Plan to fish lake Menomin mostly but would love to hit those harbor trout!
Look forward to sharing my success and failures!

I'm back, not everyday yet, but back nonetheless. How's about the rest of you WI hardwater fishers? Old Goat, you don't count, you live here all year ;) (thanks for all your "great sale updates", I wish I was closer to Madtown sometimes).
Crappy news of the day: Mother of all El Ninos is well entrenched and that does not bode well for a decent ice season here in God's Country. That means if you have an opportunity, any opportunity, you better take it or it might evaporate.

Mad town here as well. Still some time before the boat gets put away, but I have to rebound after losing 80% of my gear last year when it fell out of the shanty coming in from Big Green. I hope the El Niño predictions are wrong. I hate warm winters (but the cold one 2 seasons ago was almost too cold). Last year was just right.

I'm hoping to fish over Thanksgiving break. Did last year, but what kills us is these warm streaks for a weak at a time.

da man cave shack is back and ready for the 2015-2016 ice season.

Checking in form Chippewa Falls. Last year only got out 3 times do to having neck surgery , I plan to make up for it this year.

Waiting for some ice flying tiger out

Jaimey from Pewaukee checking in.

A lot will have to change to see ice before December in the southern half of the state. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this balmy weather leaves quickly. Not that I mind fishing from the boat a while longer, it just has me concerned about the ice season. Hopefully it will be more like the last couple we had.
Pray for hard water....

The wife's gone for the weekend :tip up: Looks like I can get ready for the new season. Working on a shanty build as well. Good luck to all this season. Oh yeah waukesha county checking in.

Hi from the northwoods. I'm looking forward the the upcoming ice season. However I seldom fish here in the state. I travel a lot due to the poor quality of many lakes nearby. I attribute the poor fishing to pressure and lack of slot limits. In my opinion (and many other local fishermen) our smaller lakes can't withstand the fishing pressure. This may sound extremely negative however it has been the general consensus among avid fishermen here in the northern part of the state.

Good stuff guys! Quite a bit of new(er) blood in the WI pool this year. A big welcome to all of you!
Stick around and enjoy the community. It's nice to see stuff from folks that are "near neighbors". ;D

welcome to all the new guys, and welcome back to the veterans. it would be a big help if all the Wisconsin members put their location in below their name. thanks.

Looks like ice making weather the week of thanksgiving. Wish it was like last year already had been out once.

Yep I know I was out once during rifle season last year. That ice can't come fast enough.

New to site and LOVE it!! Ice can't come fast enough. Was wondering how to get the Wisconsin ice shanty badge for my signature block.
Thanks

Yep I looked back on into and was on the ice November 16th last year.

I didn't even gun hunt last year due to low deer numbers and no antlerless tags in my region. I ice fished every day of gun season and ended up with 35 walleyes that week. Was kinda nice being the only one out there. Here is a picture I took last year during opener. Was out crappie fishing and had these run by

Hey everyone, Def. getting the itch now with the shallow parts of the lakes starting freeze up! Anyone else going to any of the ice fishing expo's coming up? I'll be at the St. Paul Expo with some friends checking everything out. First time going so I'm sure it will be a blast! Gonna bring the camera and take some pics/vids and hopefully get some good stuff for the fishing show we want to start on youtube this winter. If you see anyone walking around with a red/white trucker hat with the logo thats in my profile pic...thats me! Feel free to say hi.
-
I'm going to the show at the State Fair Expo on the weekend of Dec 11-13.
Ice is starting up by us in LOL's. We're on a 650 acre. We had 1/2" in our bay.
-
Checking in from Burlington Wisconsin. Wow, got my jig rods and tip-ups ready about a month ago (just in case), and it looks like I will be waiting a WHILE for fishable ice down here. Sucks. Boat is put away so I spend my free time watching ice fishing videos on YouTube. I might even take a trip up north in a few weeks if necessary just to scratch the itch. Dangit!!

Calling for 8 - 12" of white stuff in that neighborhood come Sunday. That's not good news if there's enough ice to hold it up........

Superior checking in! ;D
-
I think I will have to take the upcoming weekend off after fishing the last 2. Ice was pretty soft when we walked off Sunday night, way worse than it was the prior weekend. The good news is the week after should offer some good ice making with lows dropping to single digits.

I've been keeping up with this one, looks like we're going to get a mess of rain and garbage. Which is fine if it freezes up. I'm not really expecting to be riding the ATV out over Christmas at this pace.

Absolutely painful is all I can say! I still have ice when I log in and look at my security cam. However, that ice is probably 1/4" at this point and it looks like we get 1 day in the single digits for the next 10 days. That's not going to cut it.

I just got an email from my neighbor....our 650 acre on the boarder is wide open in the middle. It's average depth is maybe 7-8'. So larger lakes up in Lando, like LVD and Black Oak, those will be lucky to be iced over by Christmas.
The folks I feel the worst for are the resorts, bars and restaurants who depend on income from snowmobilers.

My security cam shows ice across my bay again on Nokomis in Tomahawk. its also 8 degrees!!! woohoo

I do fish all of the above. Brother and I went out yesterday and kept 14 gills between 8 and 9 1/2 inches. Had to have caught at least 100 fish to get those keepers. Kinda scary walking on ice with 6 inches of slush on top over 28 feet of water. Plenty of ice though at 3-4 inches.

Where and when is this supposed to happen??

Two years ago we got together at Fox Lake, and I believe HIMO set that up. Last year I don't think we got together due to late ice conditions. This year I haven't heard anything on it, but if something is put together and I get the time off I'll be there. Just hope the ice shows up before us...

I remember the days of fishing Grass Lake, and other areas along the river, catching 100 plus fish just to get a half dozen keepers. Heck of a fishery, just hard to get it past the little ones to get to the keepers. Used to get some really good northern too.
Do you ever ice fish walleyes below the dam in Trempealeau?
-
Just got back from a week up on the Wi/Mi boarder. The lake I'm on is a 650 acre, shallow and weedy. I got up last Sunday and we had open water in the middle. Popped a couple of holes in our bay and came up with 3-5" of ice.

So I decided to hop on the ATV and head over the Cisco Chain and saw dudes out there 1/2 mile with atvs and sleds. So I spend the entire week over there. Makeing my way out further and further as the days went by. By saturday we had about 8-9" of decent ice about 1 mile off the landing. Going was easy. We only had 1-2" of snow cover and missed the storm last monday that dumped 10" on SE Wis. Fishing Walleyes with flags only. Caught a bunch of dinks and kept 5 for eaters.

Up until 1992 I fished walleyes below dams quite often. That year we were fishing below the Genoa dam in late February on 30" of ice when I went to "relieve" myself on the Minnesota side of the river. I missed my track from the first "relief" I had taken and fell through and landed on top of the wingdam there. Got wet to my thighs and have never been out there since. I CAN TAKE A HINT!!!!

Yeah you have to be extremely careful. One Saturday I was fishing about 50 yards on the main channel from the bullnose, and about 75 yards below it. If memory serves, there was 10-12 inches of ice where I was. I was catching a lot of small sauger, and eyes. There was a guy (if I mentioned his name, I am sure you would know him), who was way up by the locks standing on ice, but fishing in the open water. Since the fish were biting so good on Saturday, and was fun, I went back on Sunday, only to find where I had fished the day before was wide open. That was the last time that I fished there. The unnamed gentleman must have been fishing on almost nothing. Very lucky he was not a statistic.

Checking in from Racine. I just moved here from St. Louis a few months ago. Originally from upstate NY. I have all my gear ready and I'm looking to meet some fishing buddies. I like to fish for just about anything and I love eating what I catch.
Went out Sunday to Wind Lake. -5F without wind, -30F with wind. Caught a 25" northern on a large shiner just shy of the 26" minimum. Had to check my holes often as they were freezing over in 30 minutes.
Will trade venison jerky or sausage for tips! I'd like to find some walleye and friends on the ice close to me.

@ 52: All those Dane County lakes dictate certified flotation on any vehicle that hits the ice. Sheriff's department does the cert. It would be unlikely that someone wound up in extremely dire straights.... That said, wet AND cold $ucks!

Then why did you kill them-
-
Because one of the guys I was with does eat them. The course allowed us to fish their ponds, with my buddy the Superintendent, was because they're emptying all of them this spring. So, they'd have become fertilizer or table fare.

Good news fellas, especially folks south of wausau, plenty of ice up in Vilas co. I fished the Cisco Chain this past weekend, 21 inches of ice and travel conditions are perfect with zero slush as of this am. Even with some warm weather coming up this week, pan fishing should be good for next weekend yet.

Thanks for the report 52! I'll be headed up to St. Germain area for crappies on tipdowns when I get "the call".... ;D At least I won't need the auger extension. BTW, outside chance, you don't happen to know a Hollowell? Old work friend of mine was fishing Lando this past week.

Ah! Now that's a sandwich! I fished down here on Sunday. Had maybe 8" of good ice left in Icehouse Bay on Okauchee. Some crappies, an 18" LMB, a 32" pike and a 46" musky got some sunlight. Everything was kept except the 'ski (of course). Pretty tight fit back down the hole. Won't be much left down here after this week.....

I know it's time...... Lots of folks lookin' to scratch the itch and no better place than good ol' IS. What a great place to learn and share with a zillion folks with a common interest.
Hah! I got it again!!! Zombie alert! Not only that but I got the last post here in March and I get to kick it off again.
Hey Cheesehead Icefisherfolks, time to rear our ugly heads and scratch the ice itch. Some of the standbys have already started.
Better weather news this year: drier and colder than last. i like that, despite the fact that all my "Up North" connections are calling for warm and wet. ::) I guess we'll see.
OK Cheeseheads, sound off and let's see who's still here and who's new in the zoo. Welcome in advance to all the noobs, if you love ice fishing this IS the place to be. Great info and an even greater community!

Txs 52. I got down here figured out, Three Lakes but you're a good 30 minutes or better north of that.
It's interesting where weather breaks form. I can be one thing here but YOY if you look at Oshkosh it's always very different. My ice season id pretty well freed up. Perhaps we meet on Palmer, Tenderfoot (or Black Oak). You fish much across into the UP or just stay on the "cheesy" side?

I basically leave our lake for ice and fish Wis/Mi boundry waters on the Cisco Chain during the winter. You fish 3 Lakes Chain?

I fish down here because it's convenient. North, I fish St. Germain (Big, Little, Lost, Found) , Sayner (Plum) and Conover (Little Tamarack Flowage), Forest County (Butternut, Franklin), been on LVD a coupla times or wherever the wind blows. I fish out in front on 3 Lakes because it's easy and I can. Not much happening there but late season crappies are a "secret" possibility.
Coupla years the 3 Lakes place will be my retirement digs and once I get that far, it becomes a target rich environment.... @) Now I got more time, no telling what might happen.

Prairie Farm here, lit a fire in the shack tonight, waiting for ice. Having a couple Kül beers, $7/case, waiting for ice! And, yes, it's cheap beer, but it's drinkable!!! Quality today, not quality!

Welcome aboard everyone! Nice to see the familiar faces and add some new blood. For you new guys, this is a great place to hang out for ice fishing info; something for everyone.
And DaleL57, you're certainly welcome north of the border. And hey, who can blame you for wanting to get away from "Da Bearrrrrs". Additionally, there's lots of fine ice fishing in the Oconomowoc area. ;)2 I live just north of town and work in the city. Perhaps we'll bump into each other on the ice this year. :icefish:
I'm still up at deer camp. No ice in Bayfield either...... :'(

Went up to Land O Lakes for the holiday. We have winter up there, but the conditions aren't great. I had a thick skimming of ice, Big Lake of the Cisco Chain did not and was wide open expect for the bay on the south end.

Welcome to the Shanty! Lots of good people, and great information on the site. Maybe we will run into each other on the ice.

Welcome to all the fresh blood. I stumbled in here a few years back and I am solidly addicted to this site and the community here. Stick around, mouse around there's plenty for everyone. Well, moderated too.
Watertooner, you're probably just up the road from me. Where do you like to fish?

I spend most of my time alternating between Rock Lake, Lake Emily, and Fox Lake looking for panfish. Will be avoiding Lake Emily for awhile - given the report of a big blue gill die-off in June. I'm thinking of expanding my choices to lakes east of me - in the Oconomowoc area.

Next week is looking promising

Yea! Bring on the cold! Forecast for Madison looks ok? May be on the back shallow bays by 12/15, close to shore and staying safe, extended weather forecasts look great , first ice is always the best fishing!
-
Hoping for more cold & ice soon!
FYI - anyone in the Dodge Co. area & looking for an offset handle for your Strikemaster hand auger (Mora/Laze) there's one for sale at a thrift store in Horicon - cheap ($5)! I know they don't make the offsets anymore.

Welcome to IS everyone!
@Uglymug: Beaver Dam location and you don't fish BD? Ok. I guess. I do Fox a couple/few times a year, been on Lazy once (ice) and a few more open water. You are within striking distance of plenty of water.
@dambeckr: Left the North Woods to come south? Are you (fill in the blank)?????? ;)2 Another couple, three years will find me in Three Lakes (the "near North according to some).
@vinny: Heck, I don't even know where Otter Creek is but welcome aboard!
@eriksat1: "Be careful out there....."

@tlarwa: Hartford, right up the road from me....

I guess I wouldn't mind trying BD again. I've had very spotty luck with the summer fishing. Maybe winter would be different. I've only been on it a few times. Lazy is a much better bass lake than an ice fishing lake, but you can get a decent amount of panfish most of the time.

New member here. Moved to the Hudson, WI area last year and am new to ice fishing around these parts. Grew up in the Twin Cities and doing most my fishing in the suburbs with an annual trip or two to the Lake of the Woods.
Joined the forum to learn more about fishing opportunities in the Hudson and surrounding area. So far from what I've skimmed, there seems to be many friendly and knowledgeable people here.
Best luck this early season and be safe out there!

Well, it's getting closer and closer. Temps up by us in LOL's has seen low 30's........you guys getting ready??

At this rate we should be able to get on the hardwater after bagging the buck during gun hunting! Been a few years since I've been able to do that. I don't wanna jinx us by being too optimistic though..

Geez 52, are you kiddin'? ;) I waited last couple of years until October to shake this tree. I love the "zombie alert" banner.
Don't worry, there's plenty of global warming left... ;)2 You up at Lando full time now or just getting ready for some fall muskies? I've got the next couple of weekends + a handful of weekdays starting tomorrow. It's still the "Near North" for me. Retirement is probably under 500 days, maybe a lot less than that. We'll see. Then it's frontage @ Three Lakes and a target rich environment.
@ Junkie: I'm still planning on row trolling the couple of days I have before gun season. That is always a hoot! I'll be thankful if we have walking ice here by Christmas.
-
You're talking to a guy with a Days Till Christmas countdown clock in his office.
I'm down in Waukesha for the next 20 years. I have a long musky week planned mid-next month, but am waiting on Hurricane Irma to see if we need to head down to FL to dig out my mom's house down there.

Thanks for the update 52! Trouble is lately it's only been a teaser. A warm up around Thanksgiving that lasts till who knows when. If I can walk on somewhere north of 70 by December I'll be happy (wait, very happy!).
You guys cast, troll or drag meat for 'skis? I found a couple in September, a 38 and one just over 44. Good times!

We were 2-2 suckers and baits. My boat spent most time trolling or drifting suckers. Love the new rules that allow using the tm and habing suckers out. My jam is drifting and using the tm for boat control.

Smaller lakes up in NE WI are beginning to see ice cover. Could they be fishing by this weekend on 3"?
-
I'd bet the smaller, shallower lakes will have 3" of ice by this weekend. Heard some already have up to 1" and the next two days in the teens and single digits should thicken it up nicely. The warm-up next week will probably keep the bigger lakes open for another couple weeks unfortunately.

Checking in again for what I hope to be a successful year of safe fishing! Most lakes I fish in the Dells area have 10 inches of ice.

My son, myself and my sons 2 Brother-in Laws went to Blue Springs lake located by Palmyra, Wi. in Jefferson county, south eastern part of the state on saturday. we caught 4 northerns and 2 perch but the highlight of the trip was a monster Northern Pike my son had on. The thrill lasted 35 seconds and the fish got off at the bottom of the hole. A jigging pole,2lb. test and no leader were the fatal error. Still it was a thrill to be there. I saw the fish on our Marcum underwater camera. What a beast. There now you have the story of the one that got away.LOL !!!

HIMO- do you go to Blue Springs often. Have had a lot of luck there in previous years.

Welcome Tom! I've never been to Blue Spring but years ago heard it was a hammer handle hole. Maybe some (at least one) grew up! I love big pike. Almost enough to make me wanna take a road trip!
-
I wouldn't advise making a trip for big pike at Blue Spring lake. I have caught a few 30 to 32 inches. Most in 22 to 27 range. Lake seems to keep you on your toes and good if your looking to pickle one.
-
That's OK. those 26 - 28"s are great in the fryer too! Used to be before the size limit I'd keep down to 24" for ease of slipping those y-bones out. Gotten better at that over the years too. I know a guy up north keeps 'em all and fillets 'em. No pickled fish for Jim...

Been trolling you guys and this forum for a few years now, and finally ready to jump in...
Lots of good info, tips, and laughs from this website. I can't thank you all enough.
Coming up to the Minocqua area, Little Arbor Vitae specifically, on Jan 25th. Anyone have any advise of any kind? We are just looking to get on some fish, walleyes preferably, and enjoy the company. We'd be willing to try any lake in the area but our cabin is right on LAV and we've never fished this area.
Thanks again, I look forward to the conversations...
Joe
-
Welcome aboard guys! Ojibwa, I've fished the Chip several times but never through the ice. Looking forward to your reports!
And Joe, can't tell you much about LAV. Hit BAV a couple times for fall muskies. It's always helpful if you add your location to your profile, then we know "where you're coming from". I do get to fish around the St. Germain area fairly often and used to hit the Minocqua chain for 'skis in August for a few years.
Good luck and stay safe!

Esox,
I'm from quad city area on the Illinois Iowa border, our ice season is often short if we get enough at all. My buddy who started these trips is from Appleton, we used to fish around Crandon but decided to venture to minocqua area this year. We have watched tip ups at Stacks Bay on Minocqua and on Sweeny with good luck but looking forward to fishing out the back door. Would rather fish with pole in hand and with the ability to get on ice early, late, and possibly at night.
-
Welcome to Gods' Country Joe! I spent a good part of my adolescence in Iowa 'cept more North Central (Forest City). Moved to Wisconsin with a minor push from my pal. I was coming here every other weekend for something or other anyway.
Good luck on LAV. Just a few miles east is the Rainbow, filled with walleyes and big perch (if you're willing to hunt 'em down). That same "neck of the woods" has Pickerel, Sugar Camp Chain and Big St. Germain. All decent water. Can't say what the slush situation is off hand. You guys have ice transportation or are you walking out?
-
We'll have a Polaris 4 seater utv type vehicle to get great out and explore different spots. We'd rather not drive out, even if others do, anymore and we don't setup camp until we've found a good spot.
Can we leave a pop-up shelter setup if it's anchored and tagged with owner info? It'd be nice to be able to leave it and go out late or at night without having to set up a shelter in the dark. Plus it's easier to talk yourself out of it if it's gonna be work...
It is God's country and I always enjoy myself but I got a nice little slice of that down here too. Maybe when I retire...
-
Don't blame you for not wanting to put a real vehicle on the ice. I generally don't either unless I'm 110% certain. As far as leaving a popup on the ice, legally you'd be good but still at your own risk depending on how much you trust people. Sad to say but stuff can still happen, even in the "North".
And yes, you've got to find ways to be happy where you're at too... ;)2

Welcome Scottjags, I am located on the opposite end of hwy 60 along the Wisconsin river. Best advice I can give you is ask a lot of questions to the people fishing around you. Most of us are willing to share some info especially when kids are involved. Maybe borrow some equipment from a friend, a flasher for finding fish and a power auger to make moving around easier are great help. Good luck and keep at it.

Thanks Lenny. I have definitely been researching flashers. For cost savings I ended getting an Eskimo hand auger, but boy that really takes some work. Although I need the exercise, a power auger may be on the wishlist real soon as well. Scott

Just moved to Sheboygan, looking to do some fishing relatively close by (hour drive or less preferably). Any suggestions on lakes? Not asking for any secret holes, just a little advice and maybe a fishing buddy ;D
-
Welcome to the Ice Shanty Quinnifer. I'm not real close but there are a few options for you to look at. Elkhart and Random lakes on the inland side are within striking distance. If Sheboygan is like Milwaukee, the harbor area may offer some ice opportunities but you'll probably need a Great Lakes trout stamp if you wish to do that, still a bargain.
Pop back into your profile and add your location so folks know where you're at on future posts. Hope someone with more experience in that neck of the woods chimes in.
Good luck to you and stay safe!

Population is just over 7500, but it's really a village not a city. It shares the same zip code as the City of Mosinee.

There are a number of sloughs which are not legally accessible because there is not a designated railroad crossing.
If you fish Merrick Park, most of the fishing takes place on grass lake. However you need to cross a channel to access grass lake along with a couple other sloughs. Take a spud to check the ice going and coming back. I have not fished it in many years, but if nothing has changed, you can expect mostly gills, with a few crappie. Also was a good spot for bass, northern, and occasionally walleye.

Phelps is a nice area! I'll be headed up to the Nicolet Shores Resort soon.

Welcome aboard Troutpike! Glad you found the Shanty before the season runs out.

Sounds like Winnebago is getting bad I heard 8 vehicles went in in the last couple of days. Some clubs are taking the bridges and trees off. Be careful.

Thanks for the update dogg. Looks like it's gonna go fast below Hwy 10.

Man, I can't believe the last weekend of inland gamefishi is upon us. Is there safe ice in SE WI??

Its hard to believe the season is coming to an end! On the brighter side it Looks like its going to be some awesome weather for the game fish finale! Best of luck and be safe!

6 weeks for this guy, likely in MN or Sawyer county, but still on the hardwater by mid-November one way or another! ;D

Seems like April Perch was just yesterday. Looking forward to some ice very soon.

Gonna have to be MN. Haven't had walking ice @ Thanksgiving for years here. Used to be I'd tote ice stuff up deer hunting and fish after. Sometimes even before. Not any more.

I was out in Sawyer County the day before Thanksgiving this past year. 3" of black ice is plenty for me with the proper safety equipment.
-
I also was out ice fishing the day or maybe 2 days after Thanksgiving. I believe there was fish-able ice on Thanksgiving in Sawyer Co. last year.
-
Had 5" of ice on lake in Washburn County on Black Friday last year. Hoping for the same thing this year!
-
I was on 3" or so second weekend in Dec. near St. Germain. Not all lakes were ready either. Some kids put a pair of ATVs through on Friday before we went out. Talked with the "recovery crew" at the access Sat. The kids didn't get far but it still wasn't going to be easy out of 10 - 11 FOW.
-
I wouldn't even think of taking a 4 wheeler or snowmobile out on 1st ice that is just plain stupidity. I'm fine with walking out on 3" with safety gear and other people around..

Well I went from poking around IceShanty once a month or two to checking 5 times a day or so. The ice bug has officially bit. It's good to be back!!

I had ice on my deck this morning.

You know something? People ask me for updates all the time. I have a bunch of customers at Kwik Trip who were customers at GM and thats come up a lot the last couple of months. I've been in contact with a lot of folks who stayed with the company and the tally on this is that they have property, but are still hashing out lease arrangements for the old Baby's R Us on Bluemound. No move in date as of now I've been told.
I started with KT part-time after the GTwn GM closed, and haven't looked back really. Excellent pay, excellent benes and a nice bonus in December.

Wrightstown here!!! its TIME!!
-
I know where Wrightstown is, my son lives in Freedom. Actually worked in Wrightstown for a few years. Where do you like to fish in that neighborhood? Junior always says unless you fish 'Bago or the Bay you gotta drive to find water. We hit Shawano a coupla times a year but for the most part he comes toward me (Fox, Beaver Dam or north to Three Lakes).

I'm originally from Green Bay area and your son is right. There is really nothing besides bago and the bay until you get into Oconto or Marinette County or west to Shawano. I like Shawano lake, my uncle used to live on the lake. But there are some hidden gems up past Crivitz, or at least there used to be! I really don't like Bago, not sure why, just never been a big fan.

Crivitz... I'm there for a week every October on High/Cauldron Falls for muskies. Beautiful!

Welcome to the shanty knotcase! Pull up a bucket and settle in, fun place with good info and great folks. Do yourself (and us) a favor by visiting your profile and adding your location to it. It helps us understand your questions and comments in context as there's folks here from all over. Doesn't have to be specific, "Northern IL" or "Chicago area" works or you can give us your street address and we'll pop in when we're in the neighborhood (just kidding).
Fair warning: No football talk from you this year... :roflmao: Seriously, you'll make me feel bad ;)2

I wind up splitting my time between Three Lakes and St. Germain areas usually. Now I've got more time I can branch out a bit, after all it is a target rich environment.
My daughter and her family live in Fort. I've been on Koshkonong once and never had a reason to return. I'd think that you'd better know where you're going: A.) for safety and B.) to find fish. We did not.

Hello. I just moved to Marshfield from Montana and I’m looking forward to sharing my upcoming trips in the ice.

Whaaaat!? Have I been cloned?
First, welcome to the Shanty! Lot's of great folks with broad experience and interesting ideas.
Second, I'm just east of you near Ocon, retired in June and typing this from Three Lakes where I should be residing full time by late this coming year. My frontage is on Rangeline, you gonna be on the water and if so where?
-
Will be coming up for annual three lakes fisheree. Middle of January.on maple lake. Long part time residents. My mother has permanent residence off big stone. I'm just waiting for retirement.

Esox,
No the area extremely well, 51 years old and been coming all my life. Grandparents use to own what is now Gutbrods resort. That was when I was a kid.

Hi, I'm John, I'm an Ice-O-Holic.
-
Thank you John, that is a big first step. Don't forget, there are people here to support you... ;)2
@ foregonefishn: I fished Maple a couple days ago. Seems like any hole I drop a camera into there's fish: pike, sunnies/gills, perch or crappies. Everything runs on the small side but often I'd have two flags up and a pannie coming on the jig rod at the same time. Pretty good place to build some jigging confidence if you don't yet have it. Might be up there during the fishoree, we'll see.
@Otto1: Welcome to the Shanty! Pull up a bucket and make yourself comfortable. Lots of good info and great folks here. S'funny, when I joined up I wanted "otto" but it was already taken by a guy that had named his dog that. You're "1" so that's good ;D. Help the rest of us by visiting your profile and entering a location so everyone can get a sense of about where you're at. It makes understanding questions/comments or offering advice better because we know what part of the country/state you're in.

Esox.. Three lakes lions club moved that date 3weeks earlier this year. Just found out the snowmobile derby in eagle river is that weekend. Not too happy about that. TRAFFIC. Hopefully getting 18 through 21st off with permission for out of town. work for local public works department.
You guys have me itching with those pictures.

Hello fellow Wisconsinites. I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself as i'm new to ice fishing. This is my 2nd year out on the ice and i'm still learning different bait setups and strategies. This site has a lot of good information and i'm reading as much as I can.
I just picked up an old Clam pre-5600 style model and looking forward to getting on the ice as much as I can. Hope to run into you out on the ice sometime.

Welcome to the Shanty Mike! Thanks for checking in, pull up a bucket and get comfortable. There's something here for all skill levels, heck I still learn new stuff here even though I've been at it a few decades.
I'm not too far from you and fish Fowler and Okauchee frequently along with Ashippun, Beaver, Forest and Pine. Otter sled,K-Drill, Polar tippys, black bibs and Ice Shanty beanie... Feel free to introduce yourself if you catch me on the ice. I'm Mike too ;)2

What areas do you usually fish Dave? Fish the bay much? I'm from Suamico originally. Don't get to fish the area as much as I'd like but still get that way a few times each winter to visit family. Tight lines!

Hi guys. Just checking in. I have been busy this past summer.I bought a used 5'x 8' utility trailer and have been doing some work on it. It has a diamond plate metal deck so I put some truck bed liner on it. My son is in the tire business, so he got some bigger tires and rims to give it more load capacity. I am now building some 3/4" plywood sides for it so in the winter all our icefishing gear is protected from the weather on our way to the ice. The last thing I want to do to it is a custom canvas top with snaps to hold it on. It will be sweet. In the summer we can haul our camping gear in it. I am also still fighting my cancer diagnosis. The tumor in my liver is now dead. I have 2 small ones that are being kept in check by a cancer pill called Nexavar. The last 6 months they have not grown at all and hopefully the will die from the medication. If not the doctor said he will go in and remove them. As long as I am still sucking air, thats a good sign.Well as the Wisconsin Moderator I guess I should go and Moderate. Hopefully we will see each other on the ice this winter.
Don
-
Glad to hear you're doing well....
-
Great news Don! I hate cancer. Didn't do me any favors. It's to the point now I don't even like to say anything after having had to be a cheerleader for one that did not end well. Really, really happy you have good news ;D
-
Himo/Don may you beat the cancer. Have fun completing work on utility trailer.
Steve
-
Don, Glad you are beating that cancer.
Good luck with the trailer.
Sounds sweet!

Farmers Almanac is saying same weather as last year.
Could use a little less snow.

Hi all - I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I started ice fishing with a buddy in college and have been cold weather jigging ever since- cant get enough of it. We braved the elements (poor college student at the time and the fact that we're Wisconsinites anyway) but last year I picked up a thermal clam 2seater - living the highlife now! Stumbled upon IceShanty looking for shack/sled mod ideas and was impressed with the ideas and discussions.
looking to learn lots more from all of you and cant wait to be on the ice

Hey Mocs n Docs welcome to The Shanty! There's lotsa resources on the web but none quite like this. Slide yer bucket in the Shack and make yourself comfortable! Plenty of great info here and as many great folks to back it up. I stumbled in here some 8 years ago and just keep hanging around.
And thanks for posting on the WI board
Just curious, got a general location in WI? North, South, East, West? For all I know we could be neighbors. Currently living near Oconomowoc in the South in the process of moving to Three Lakes (near Eagle River).

Hey All,
I am said "college buddy", I am addicted to ice fishing and cannot wait to learn more from you all. I am currently in Medical School up in Green Bay and hoping to discover some new hardwater spots this winter! Would love any insights if you have experience in the area.
I currently am shack-less but have a small otter/style sled and hand auger so I like to stay fairly mobile and brave the elements with my Flasher.
Thanks for having me!

Im fishing around the western side of the state mostly - I live in River Falls, fish all the way down in the La Crosse area on the Sippi and now I'm starting to explore the lakes north of me up to the Hayward area.
-
@Doc_Dev - Welcome to the Shanty! Ditto everything I told your buddy Mocs. So did they put you two in separate halves of the state for a reason? ;) Mom usta separate my brother and me like that... ::)
Fishing ops in your part of the state are kinda slim save for fishing the Bay and it's tributaries. My son lives a little west in Freedom and does a fair amount of whining about that. We've done Shawano a number of times, Oconto Falls and plied some backwaters and bays off of rivers. All have produced, some better than others. Good to share your location, might make a local pal that can offer an opportunity to tag along ;D
Good luck this season and keep it dry!

Western Marinette county. 40 miles from Iron Mountain Mi. 10 minutes from Caldron Falls, 15 miles from High Falls. Anyone been out around here yet? I know some guys been out, but we have had 21-25 inches of heavy snow since formed. How thick is the ice around here and northern Oconto and southern Forest county??
-
Hey Silvercliff! Welcome to the Shanty and thanks for checkin' in  I've fished High/Cauldron in October for a number of years but missed this year. Just chasin' muskies but I sure do love the scenery!
I've seen someone with your handle, "Silvercliff" somewhere but I can't put my finger on it. Gotta be either Lake-Link or a musky board. I don't spend a ton of time mousing all over the place, pretty easy to find.
Anyway, can't update you on ice conditions there. I know the big snow was not a good thing and some places got away a little more easily.

I'm in Spooner and fish mostly Washburn, Barron, and Sawyer Counties as well as Chequamegon Bay.

Western Waukesha County here

Well, it's August, about 8 months since the last post here. So much has gone on. How's everybody fairing?

Looking forward to making it back up that way at least once this season

The overnights are getting colder. We saw 38 on the thermometer up in Land O Lakes Tuesday AM. Mrs and I are in the process of buying a new place up there and am really looking forward to the ice season.

Don't rush things too much 52. I got muskies to catch and bucks to shoot before I walk on water. Plenty to do in God's Country ;)2

Better days are ahead.
Hang in there, we’re all suffering.

Hello Wisconsin
Happy Thanksgiving.
;D ;D
-
Heard there were some guys in Arbor Vitae Monday crawling out. Temps look good for ice to take hold on smaller lakes, and hopefully get solid before snow and slush begins. Bring it on!
-
OG here in Madison there are some out on cherokee now
-
OG, I’m blown away by that. Have u been there already? I know you’re one of the early guys in that spot.
-
OG, good to see you are still kicking!! Hope you are staying safe! Surprised to hear there is ice on Cherokee? It can't be too thick? I hit some usual Mendota backwater channels last weekend open water, not a bite! I hit the Seafood Center for fresh cod and other goodies, very pricey but good! Can't wait to get out on the ice, we need some cold here! Take care and stay safe!

I went today there was about 8 people out. Ice cracking almost every step but it maybe a layering of ice freeze at night thaw during day thing. One guy had a fish take his shiner and his pole. He made a run for it and then reached into water for it but was slow on the draw.
-
Thanks goat. Gonna be another week or two before my fat ass slinks out there. I’m itchin though.

Take a drive if it isn't to far there was 50-75 people out there today. One guy was way out the lake is small less than 200 acres.

Wrightstown... Junior used to be a cop there. Did a ride along with him once. About halfway through he asks, "So Dad, whaddaya think?"
I said, "This is really cool. First time I ever rode in the front seat."
Shoulda seen the look on his face :woot: :roflmao:
I'll get to punch a hole or three @ Three Lakes the next coupla days ;D

Goat,
I’m dropping the boat off at Pharos tomorrow, and I’ll shoot over there. Maybe this warm up will not affect it. Still can’t make it until the weekend. Bite must be on with that crowd.

wait 48-72 hrs. edges almost gone stepped on today but only 1 or 2 places to get on and getting off probably a no go at 50* Weather man says high of 32 in a couple days. No report on bite as I did not fish in last couple days. This town goes crazy at first ice. Even when the bite isn't on.
-
Is anyone fishing yet up north? I just want to read that someone is catching fish on hard water. Waiting another week in the south, but may chase the ice up north if it takes too long down here.
Fs
-
Have been fishing small lakes near the border (but on the Michigan side)
-
North of 8 is almost all a decent 3 - 4". I was out yesterday and the top was a little soft but the second whack with a heavy spud was like hittin' a concrete sidewalk. By the end of next week ought be a good 8 - 10 almost every where except the deepest latest freezers.
-
Eau Claire here.
Reports of good ice on Altoona and Wissota but too risky for a big guy like me. Thought about running over to Mille Lacs and Upper Red because of the 8+ inches they have but think we'll be good to go by Wednesday with the current forecast
-
Tomah / Warrens area here. I fish from the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi on and off. Good luck to all and be safe.

OG, I hit Cherokee this morning. Yikes, had to be 50 or more people out there! I got skunked! Had the camera down, no panfish sighted, big northern's cruising around. One was a big as a log! Ice seemed ok at 3-4", getting soft when I left. Not many other options in the Madison area, people falling through on Wingra and Monona bay. I will give it a rest until next weekend. Take care and stay safe!
-
Any day fishing is a good day. Must of been nice seeing the brute. I took a skunk first time out too. I hope it makes it through this week; cold snap coming then I hope. I went by brittingham yesterday and thought people might be going through soon. Give me a yell when good ice.
-
I'm not from Wisconsin but I am coming up to see you guys Wednesday. No ice here in northwest Indiana and the forecast isn't looking good. So I'm checking in!

Black River Falls,Jackson county
-
Fishinator,
We will adopt you for scratching the itch. I hope your plan is to get at least halfway north of the border, because the southern 1/3 is iffy on some lakes, and the heavy snow coming tonight won’t help anything. Less snow and better ice starting around HWY 10 and north. Headed to Vilas county tomorrow for my fix.
Tight lines,
Fs
-
Headed to onalaska. Snow looks like its going to make for a slow ride. Got spud bar, rope and float suit to be safe.
-
Careful on the roads tonight. FllletShow is right, south of 10 is sketchy. North of 8 is golden. Walked out on 9" today where there was 4" last week.

Phat Boy from manitowoc lot of people out but not enough to drive on

Milwaukee here. Drove up to Green Bay this past weekend to fish for whitefish on lake michigan. Lots of people out there. Only caught 2. Struggled and it was cold, but better than work.

How far out are they getting on the bay? Originally from GB, my parents still live in the area.
-
Well, technically it wasnt green bay, but close. Checked point comfort and red river park. Red river was where everyone was at. I walked out 500 yards. Some people were further out. Point has unsafe ice. Four people had to be rescued yesterday due to the ice breaking off. They were 100 yards offshore.
-
West Bend here. Only been able to fish Wallace Lake and Long Lake. Wallace has been very good to me and Long Lake was a disappointment (8" ice with 3" of water/slush on top). Hoping to get to Poygan at least once this year but with a 11 month old at home, my priorities have shifted (in a good way).

When is the eel pout spawn on bago? I still need to check an eel pout off my list...
But the real question....what's your go-to ice cold beer??

Hello everyone. I'm new to Wisconsin. Well I moved to Marinette in February this year from Wyoming. Gonna get my first wisconsin ice fishing in starting Thursday when I get off work . Not sure where yet but I'm hoping to find some crappie, perch, and walleye. The more i try to research places to go the more confused I get. Looks like some decent fishing in alot of places.

Charliebrn up in Rusk Co. Still waiting to get out. SOON!!

Most of you guys are getting out for the first time this season in the southern 1/3 of the state. Just be careful and have a safe trip. The cold temps and thin ice on some lakes makes this weekend one to use some caution. Also, don’t forget the little things. Had a buddy go for the first time the other day, drove 30 min and realized he left his hub at home (in this cold snap). Tight lines and be safe fellow IC members!
-
Bent's Camp on the Cisco Chain in Land O Lakes just cancelled their radar run for next weekend the 17th. Poop's getting real up there.
Heading up tonight for a long weekend, 8-10" but slushy/water.
-
That’s surprising I guess. I think the ice is safe enough, but maybe not safe running sleds on glare ice? Is Craig having any drink specials? I am getting my dad to go up next weekend, and assured him we’ll find safe ice and fish. Bringing my quad and hitting a lake in the hazelhurst area. Down south I think I hear a fat lady singing about ice fishing. Shortest season on record.

We fished a small UP lake for pan fish. Did ok, but there were some really small ones, but marked fish all day. 6" of ice. Ive been hearing 8-10 on the Cisco Chain. Bent's had to cancel due to concerns of sleds, trucks and people on the ice.
I'm heading back up next weekend. Will probably hit Bent's for pizza.
