can i use amsoil interceptor in my 2hp jiffy
« on: Dec 03, 2009, 12:01 PM »
Hi all,

I switched to synthetic last year...no probs...so far. I was recommended to use Amsoil...so off i went to CT and asked the guy which one he recommened for my 2hp jiffy....he said the Amsoil Interceptor. I ran it at 50:1 for most of last season.

After using the search feature on here to confirm the ratio...i kinda forgot....i see most if not all that use Amsoil use the 'Saber' one. I could only find one other person who used the Interceptor for his Jiffy, saying it had a colder pouring point.

Anyway....my question is.....can i use Interceptor in my Jiffy?

Like i say my auger ran fine on it last seaso at 50:1......but am i damaging it and should i switch to the 'Saber' brand.

Thanks in advance

Simon

I would ask Amsoil about that. I asked them what to use in my auger and they recommended Amsoil Saber Professional 100/1. Isn't Interceptor a snowmobile oil?
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

It probably won't bother anything. I had a small 2 stroke generator at one time and their tech support recommended that I run  Interceptor in it.

If your mixing the Interceptor no leaner than 50:1 I'd say you won't have any issues. Amsoil's Sabre Professional is designed for small 2-stroke air-cooled engines like in augers. They formulate certain oils to work best in certain applications. I use Amsoil's HP Injector in oil injected outboards but if you use the HP Injector oil for Premix applications Amsoil recommends a premix no leaner than 50:1.(Oils designed for oil injection) If in doubt shoot Amsoil an e-mail. If I have left over Amsoil Sabre Outboard premix I use it in my auger, but its very similiar to the Sabre prof.

Yes you can use it. I use my sled oil(klotz) in all of my air cooled engines.

Funny thing is saber is nothing new in terms of a oil as opti has been making it for years. Alot of loggers have been using it since the early 70's. It works well.

I spoke to the Amsoil rep at the St. Paul ice show on Friday.
He said that any of the 2 stroke oils made by Amsoil are ok at 50:1

He said that Saber is made specifically for Augers and can be run at 100:1

I use the outboard injector oil by Amsoil, (which can be used as a premix) at 50:1

The rep said it is fine, as long as it is an oil for 2 strokes, and not an oil that you would use in a 4 stroke engine.
He said that the 4 stroke oil is not made to be mixed with gas, but the 2 stroke oil is.

Hope this helps,

Wiener
