I'm a relatively new member to iceshanty, having caught the bug over the past two winters.
I live in Whitehorse Yukon, and have had success set-lining for burbot in local lakes. It doesn’t hurt that the Yukon and Alaska governments provide ‘how to’ instructions.
I am very excited to search for Burbot holes in the Yukon and Takhini Rivers, and I’m hoping to get some tips to maximize my searching time
In times of the year when I can get on the river ice, where are the burbot holding? I’ve read that they like deep holes, which in our rivers is usually on the outside of bends (also the thinnest/last to form ice YARR!!!).
In times of the year when I can’t get on the river ice, where and how should I target them? I’ve read that the mudlines from inlet creeks and rivers are the best targets. Is there a better rig than a heavy rod (enough to get my weight out to where I want it) with heavy mono, a heavy enough weight to fight the current, and a terminal rig similar to what I would use for set-lining in a lake?
