2013 Species
« on: Oct 08, 2012, 11:37 AM »
I've had a few PM's about the # of fish species (or lack of) in this years tourney.

We trimmed down the list a little to make it a little easier to manage. Being my first year running the Iceshanty Tourney, I want to give myself the best chance to do a good job for you all. I'm sorry if your favorite species went away. but I had to start somewhere.

I'm not going to start changing things to try to make 100% happy, as we all know is impossible. Lets see how this season goes and we can add to or edit the list next year.

Thanks for understanding!

Tiny

Thank you for the quick reply!  I received your pm, but wanted to reply back here for others to see.  I completely understand and respect the work you're doing for this and will not question it further.  Just hoping next year we can have bluegill on the list.  Just figured since bluegill range covers the whole continent it would be a good failsafe for everyone.

Again, thanks for your work!  I look forward to seeing all the great catches.  Good luck everyone!

I too got your PM and wanted to say thank you for the fast reply.  Didn't mean any gripes, was just curious.

Thanks Again!  Look forward to having some fun with this tourney!

I'm glad that there is a tournament this year, I joined this site after the cut off and couldn't join last year.  Maybe I have lots of ice on the brain but I didn't see a list of eligible fish for the tournament, could you please direct me to it?  Thank you Tiny Tim for taking on such a big project and dedicating the time to it.

I was wondering why wait so long to start the contest.  End of december seem late.  Alot of people are on the ice end of november and catching nice fish.     Anyways I am glad it got taken over can't wait to see some monsters this year.   Good Luck running the contest this year I know its a lot of work.

its mostly to keep it fair for everyone. most people north of NJ get a season thats 2 months longer than us. People may start in late november, but here in jersey we may not even have safe ice til January some years.

I wish the cards were available the start of December, I will have a month or more of fishing on hard water before I can register any catches into the Tourney :(

15" crappie, ouch! Thats huge for my state! I would of REALLY liked to see bluegill instead of LM bass. There are A LOT of guys that strictly gill fish through ice. Its probably 90% of my fishing through ice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burbot

Great night fishing, good eating if you know how to carve them. I fished a lake for a number of years that holds the Canadian Record Burbot 22+ pounds. The current world record burbot was caught in a lake about 3 hours from where I live 18+ pounds, yes I know the Canadian record is more than the world record, don't ask it's all about certain sanctioning bodies.
