Was fishing my favorite crappie lake today and got into some nice gills. Seems like the gills are starting to compete with the crappie, of which there are a ton, but big. Not only were there a lot of medium gills (7-8.5'') I got a couple real nice ones which I released. Only kept two 8.5'' to go with the crappie. Almost got to 10'' with this one

Another that was over nine:

Thanks guys; I'm excited that they are starting to emerge as prominent fish in that lake. A few years ago it was rare to see an 8". It isn't fished much and mostly guys are taking crappie. There are still a lot of crappie, but maybe the harvesting is starting to level the playing field. At least that's what I hope. ;) BTW Plastic was tops again: Ratsos and finesse, and Northland Impulse on a very small gold jig.
