Dead stick rods
« on: Oct 07, 2017, 06:39 PM »
Ok, if been getting the itch and watching too many of videos on YouTube.  What is the best dead stick rod for walleye?  Best reel?   Do you you go for an actual rod made to dead stick or use whatever? I am looking into widow maker dead stick, Thorne bros. Dead stick, Tucr dead stick, what else is out there? Sorry if this has been hashed over, could not find in the search function.  Thanks!

any rod can lay around...doesn't have to be specifically for dead sticking...

I use a Meat Stick, mainly for perch though.

I like the Catch Cover Multiflex Ice-Rod Holder too.

St. Croix rods.com You can just go to their store online.
Great service and great rods! I own a  few different for panfish and musky. I ordered 2 cheaper ice rods at 3pm one day and had them by 1pm the next day.

Any rod can be a dead stick rod.  A dedicated dead stick rod may improve the hook up ratio, and sometimes is the difference between hit or miss.

Mostly I have a minnow on a dead stick setup whereas any rod will get job done.  However there are often times, I'm all plastic and it is a dedicated dead stick setup.

What size bait are you dead sticking? A 3" shiner or a 9" creek chub? I fish fatheads on a medium lite panfish rod and chubs on a much stronger rod.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.
