The pine branches.  In many states, Iowa for example, it is illegal to add structure to public waters.  Can you imagine what it would look like if EVERYONE wanted to add a Christmas tree or 2 to the bottom of their favorite lake.  It'd be hard to get a boat on some of them that get alot of fishing pressure.

Woow

The dec encourages it in NYS. I checked the laws and know them. 100% NO, but I have inquired and know it legal in NEW YORK STATE.
MAny clubs put em out for bass. Branson Misssouri for sure!

Most lakes you have to walk down hill to get to the water? My lakes ya do in NYS. Six sets of branches in my two man hut is barely a burden to take down.
Last note its legal as long as it not a navigation hazard!!!! I put my out in 20-40 fow for crappies, perch and walters. The pike really like em!

Imagine a whole lake with structure??? Sounds good to me. PS if your reffering to the boat thread these are apples and oranges~!

Where I live people collect cristmas trees when people throw them out. When it gets to be late in the ice season they take them out on the ice and tie concrete blocks to them and when the ice melts they sink. It becomes structure to fish during the summer and winter. Whei I'm ice fishing I like to find them and set up right next to them.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

I too miss the Lindners.  They have another show, but darned if I know when/what channel etc.

If you want a good psych up, watch the Ice Fishing Secrets videos.  Dong Stange is entertaining.
In this area I can see them on the Outdoor Network. At 5 AM eastern time

Right, like I said, be sure to check your local regulations because they can vary from state to state.

What is "the boat thread"???

Hey Nd. Walleye
Most guys that make those fish structures here are using an old bowling ball . Drill it full of holes
put your old scrap pvc plumbing through the holes and sink it , From what i hear they work great .
They won't even snag your line .

I know in Indiana it is illegal to "dump" anything in public waters without a permit from the dnr. I would say that it would be pretty difficult to get a permit or just a pain in the _ss, Although i know of people loading up their pontoon with christmas trees and setting sale after dark.
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

Well I'm not made of money so I'll be trying the christmas garland. Just bought some garland at Menards on sale ( can you believe it, they are already discounting the christmas stuff ), using some coated tip up line I had and some swimming noodles for floats ( shhh don't tell my kids ).  I think it will work just as well as reel weeds, fish are a curious bunch anyway. I 'll report back when we get good ice. ;)

My wife "drug" me to K-Mart this morning to look at a Christmas wreath( she's in the holiday house decorating mode).....don't you love it?

Any way I was looking at Martha Stewart's "stuff" and saw some artificial pine roping priced at $5.99/12' and the stuff looks that it could easily be made into some artificial weeds like we have been talking about.

I'm planing on keeping my ears open for this to go on sale (they have bunches of it)
and see if it works..

I was thinking as I take the line off my tip-ups about those reel weeds. You can buy that stuff at the pet store in the aquarium dept for probably 5 bucks a piece. They are crazy to be charging those prices. I guess you just need a little smarts to do it yourself.(((((FLAG)))))

From what I see of the ads in magazines it doesn't look like there is too much to them,
Basically they are just a long string (6'-8') of plastic weed looking stuff with a weight tied to one end and a float tied to the other end.
If you used masons line and some small electrical tie wraps to secure the garland to it and tie a 2oz. sinker to the end it would look a lot like what they are selling. I'm going to make a couple and see how they work..
