Wow. That’s just 2 people that got busted. Really makes you wonder what lengths people will go to, just to win.

Thats a pretty common thing on that lake. I’ve seen many shantys with a large flip up floor to the live well

Walleye Challenge - Fulton County
On Feb. 24, ECOs Scott Pierce and Jason Hilliard were on patrol at the annual Walleye Challenge Ice Fishing Tournament on the Great Sacandaga Lake in Fulton County when the officers came upon an ice shanty and two fishermen. A small opening in the ice had been dug next to the shanty to form a livewell, and a number of walleye and perch were stored there. Some fish were alive and others were not. ECO Pierce counted 13 walleye in the pool of water, which put the two fishermen over the daily limit of walleye. The fishermen said they were going to release the extra walleye after the tournament. ECOs Pierce Hilliard asked the fishermen to release the five live walleye back to the lake. The fishermen were charged with taking and possessing in excess of the daily limit of walleye.

1st...The WC was Feb. 17th
2nd...By the rules you can't have "any" walleyes on the ice if you are in the WC. Fish must be entered or released right away.
3rd...If what you say is true, those "dirt bags" are doing that everytime they are on the ice, all season. Plus, a ticket is NOT enough. They should have taken all their gear, shanty, everything and had a fire on the beach.
4th...I am sure those two are not the only ones...h2l

their names should be announced and banned from any contest on the Sacandaga for life............  also still don't understand them being off a week on the date.......

So here's a question for the group...  With the cold temps, it seems the lake is still very fishable.  But....Walleye and Pike season are over.

Can you still ice-fish, but just not keep the fish?

Wouldn't mind getting out one more weekend.

Is anyone aware of any ice fishing tournaments on the south end of GS?
Planning a trip for this season and I would rather not go when there is a tournament.

Very happy to say that tonight I landed my first eye of the year, about 20 minutes ago. 3 1/2” of clear black ice and didn’t even get set up before the flag went up.

Goose, way to go. I see the lake has dropped about a foot this past week. It has been a long time since it was this high in the Fall. Be careful out there....h2l

The lake level has been like a yo-yo. HRRB reported that in early Dec. lake was about 9 feet above the norm. It dropped some in Dec. but since Thursday it came up over 2 feet. Haven't seen anyone on this end since  early this past week....h2l

Not to sure on the Gsl. I’ve seen some sketchy ice pics.the water level is going up and down. A lot of the smaller lakes are safe in the Canada and Caroga Lake area. I was out last weekend on the atv. Solid 8-9 inches

Perfect that's a huge help. I was looking at caroga since its smaller and we dont have an atv, so I may end up there.
