yeeea they were biting
« on: Feb 17, 2019, 04:58 PM »
started off slow but turned on when the snow started. 2 hour jigfest with a white nills and glow wedgie glued under the tail.  I tipped it with chunk of gulp and spray of shad juice for scent.  gotta love them predators during a front!  time well spent!  thinking about hitting the crappie tonight for a second round after dinner.

drilled about 35 holes with the ridged.  still 3bars on the battery when I got home.  had 3-8" of good ice edges were all solid.

haha  to be honest it would be a memorable 2 hour session on a public lake.  but Im not out to bs anyone. just had to let some fester for a while. lol  you would be surprised at the number of people that get stirred up over bass harvesting ::)  you would think it was murder or something.  it was a private lake and the guy wants the small bass thinned out.  I caught 3 of them and a buddy caught 2.  had two flags, baited with nice gills, but they dropped them.  those were literally the smallest bass we caught though.  only had a 2hour window on short notice, to fish, or that pile would have been more than doubled.   plan on getting back there in spring for a buzzbait slaughter!   got some battle footage but too much background in it to post. definitely not taking that chance, with some of the vultures on here!  all fish caught on 4# test and nills type jigging raps.  buddy's son lost two of his dads jigging raps to break offs.  ;D

othing wrong with bass on the table.  I try and limit myself to 17-18 in on public lakes.  those chunkers tasted mighty good when I came off the ice at today.  I sliced them up into fingers and use andys Cajun.  I bet I ate and entire bass and have snacks for my pocket tomorrow.   ;D

Its been years since i have had bass.  We used to eat white bass out of the reservoir all the time.  Just have to try and trim most of the red meat off of them.  I found it helps to stay and 1/8” or so off of the skin.

I cut the red meat out of all larger fish. say bass 12" or bigger, crappie over 12, all pike, and most cats.

Same with muskies. Cut the red meat out. Pickled musky/pike are the best.

the musky min. limit is too big to eat.  don't think even removing the red meat would help them. lol  they only good for stocking your ponds.

walked off jigging some open holes, before the crappie bite, the other night.  first hole I no more than got it down touched bottom and came up a foot to jig and wham.  weight on the first lift.  next hole same deal.  bit as soon as I started to work it.  jigged 6 more holes but had no more hits.  im pretty sure I lost a pike on a crappie set later that night. it took me for a ride then popped loose.  the crappie caught were mostly 10" dinkers.

getting a jump on the spring bass harvest lately I guess.
