I have only been ice fishing here for about 7 years. When is the last time u guys ever had weather this wacky? This lake has saved our ice fishing season on more than 1 year. 2 years ago we left our house in march and my pond was open water and u guys still had 15 inches. I really think it might be over. the accu weather guessers make it look bad. Any good predictions out there?end of the month ....   maybe next year.   I am glad I skipped our muzzleloader season to come up begging of January or I might not been able to fish there this year.  Mark :tipup:

My personal opinion... It's done. 2 more warm days with rain this weekend. Lots of open water, and the ice that is there is piss poor. I took a vacation for next week and was planning on fishing Chautauqua, but instead will be driving 5 hours to the northeast to fish safe ice. Days are getting longer, sun is going to be up more. It's not looking good. Maybe we will get a cold snap mid February into March but i doubt that it'd be enough to save the season. End of last ice season i said to myself "Wow. We could not have a worse ice fishing season than the one we just had" and here we are in early february with no decent ice anywhere on the lake. Incredible. I've given up on it for this year. I will be on my boat in late february/early march catching eyes.

its open water again from the bridge down to almost Cheney's Point.  There are some open water patches in the area of the ferry crossing.  My opinion is it's done.  I wish it would make up it's mind.

I think its funny how some people post ice conditions that are beyond true. I fished last saturday and sunday on good ice. Just because one part of the lake is open or unsafe doesnt mean its bad everywhere.

Ok, that's because everywhere where most people check is not any good, if you want to try and put the people that are giving these reports down, then why don't you give an ice report yourself and say where there is good ice.

Good ice? hahahaha ;D if you wanna play around on 2-3" honeycombed crap ice be my guest. just remember getting pulled out by the rescue crew is expensive! This year has been dangerous enough as it is with ice conditions.  reports like that are gonna be the ones that get people hurt trying to find this so called 'safe ice' you speak of. me and my friend drove around that lake saturday and sunday looking for someone on the lake. must be just coincidence we didnt see you either day...

i be fixin to give it a try in the morning. my sons got bait from skips at the bait shack down the road in jamestown. hogens hut gave him extra minnews. found me an ibeam from a scrpe yard i be use for a spud.

Well I guess the only way to really know if there's good ice on the lake is to check it out in person for yourself. Use good judgement though, 2 guys went through & drowned on long pond I think it was in oswego county. To many conflicting reports for me , Hogan's hut reported people falling through this wk on fb . Think I'll wait till March & get the boat out on Erie . Be safe.

Weird. We stopped Sunday at noon and blew through 3" of ice with our spud 1 hit. Nobody else was out there.
