My first shack was a 8x8 then it grew to a 8x12 and i just finished building my new one which is 8x16 it all depends on how much room you want or need and what you will be pulling it with. I pull mine with a 3/4 ton truck and here in alberta we dont have to worry bout how much ice cause by jan we have 3 feet. Its all personal preference.

I would go 5x7. Gives you a little more room. If you can get your hands on some billboard sign facing it works great really light and strong.

Factor in: How many people? Sleeping in it? How much comfort do you want? Room for jig holes?

That's what I have. Just got 6 sheets of aluminium faced billboard sign facing . 4x4 runners with 2x2 joists,
3/8"/1.5"styrofoam/3/8" plywood sandwich for the floor, 2x2 studs with 1.5" styro between, coroplastic inside
and aluminium insulated  roof (have one 4x8 alu sheet from scrap). Two plexi windows. That's the plan ;D

I would do 5x7... I have been in a few 4x8s and they seem so tight width wise.

My first perm was 6x8 and was plenty of room for even 3 guys. I now have a 6x10 trailer and its like a mansion!!! Amazing how some folks need 3000sq ft and a whirl pool to be happy when we are happy with just a few doz sq feet on a frozen lake ;D
Northern pike are for guys that cant catch walleye :v)

4x6 should be big enough for two guys, but may be just a bit tight with equipment.  I have one of those 8x7 that fit in the bed of a truck.  4x8 floor and 18" seats on each side 18" up from floor.  All 2x2 x2'oc clear white cedar frame with 5/8 fir plywood for floor and 1/2" fir plywood for the seats.  The walls are tyvek'd and vinyl sided.  Roof has a wedge shape and is covered now with bent aluminum to mimic metal roofing.  I'll be replacing that with 1/4" PVC sheets.  My shack is fairly light weight and I've gotten comments from the locals as they watch me zipping around with it doing 30mph.  It's not a true run and gun.. It's my perm.  I rarely fish out of it with more than me and my son, or me and my dad.  It will fit 6 Adults comfortably.   Part of the shack is a waste. and it would have been better/lighter if I made it 6x6 with a 4x6 floor.  A couple of boat chairs sitting on top of the 12" ledge on each side for comfort.  This I plan for my next shack to be the run-n-gun when the JetSled starts to fall apart.  Floors and sides are filled with 1 1/2" Polystyrene. My shack would float.  I put double doors on my and drive my snowmobile or ATV right inside it for transport.  No need for a trailer.

After marking  different dimension on the floor . trying  different chairs and holes positions with my jigging rods in my hand
I am ready to go with 4.5 x  7.0 . Why? Well...I am cheap ,and this design giving me enough jigging space for two guys
(sitting along back long wall with the door on the center of opposite  long wall) and still use one sheet of plywood for the
floor. This extra 6 " of width really make a difference. What do you think guys??

Sounds like your doing your homework by drawing it out first.  There are a bunch of these on my lake with a 4x8 floor and and a 2x2 bumpout for shelving and stove.  two person inside.  one on each side of the door.

I like the design, wish I had put the door on the long wall of my toaster so the guy in back can get out quicker....
