Was fishing the north red river and was a complete wash. Only 2 saugers and 1 nice bite from 7:45 to 9:45...My buddy was trying to convince me to leave so we started slowly getting things ready to go (i worked at 12:30)...and just as we were taking the gear out of the tent my dead stick almost goes down the hole. I picked it up and the fish was gone.... let it sit still for 30 seconds and BAM!!! The fish was heavy and had more piss and vinegar than a 12" sauger. After a few close calls at the hole my buddy finally grabbed it. A 32.5"/14.3 lb pig. Normally i dont keep bigger females, but i'm convinced it's a lifetime fish so i brought it home and it will be going on the wall. I have 2 cellphone pics and i will be posting it as soon as my girlfriend gets it online. I always thought a 32 incher would be around 10-11 lbs....is 14.3 abnormally fat? I couldnt beleive the size of its belly... Merry Christmas everyone!

I still don't understand why people are keeping the big fish.There are replicas.You got the pics,you got the weight,,just get a girth measurement.And they look just as good and last longer...Thats your personal best,,congratulations..Maybe if you released it and caught it next year,it would be a pound or two heavier....

Great fish, I hope to catch something nearly that big some day. Don'tlisten to that other dude giving you a hard time about keeping it, it's your fish and like you said you don't normally keep the big mamas but you are definately entitled to keep a monster like this. He should be talking to the guys that keep everything they catch not the guy who keeps one fish.

good for you replicas are not the same as the real thing . I have 4 on the wall now but it cost a lot money but its worth it .
go for it bud I got mine done by Mr.Fish and he did a vary good job on them

MR FISH did mine as well and a great job it was, be ready to pay out $400+ for that one. A large female that size doesn`t have all that many fertile eggs so don`t feel bad. Now a 28 incher is a different story.

I have seen and heard of guys taking there fish home for a mount.Sits in the freezer for a couple years,then goes to the trash.I take a camera with me.Take my pics and let her go.If I do keep fish,they are the 14 to 18 inchers,The best eaters.And rarely do I even take a couple home.Years down the road people will be crying there are no fish.And they can think back to all the female spawners they took out of the water..
Other options are getting good pics,,blowing them up and framing them.They look good on the walls also..

Congrates ! We all deserve a trophy of a lifetime , some it's a jumbo perch , some a giant pike ? Get a quality mount and remember if forever . As far as releasing it ? we all have our reasons for keeping or releasing and that is just how it is .Who knows ....if it made it to the lake the commercial fishermen might have caught it and then what ?? From the gut piles that we saw there last year there is no slot size that does not get caught and processed .My thoughts !

I am with you Mago. What about the 'people' on shore at the locks,you know who I mean. Seen them keeping trophys to take home and to cut up and eat(From the Pro-V of course). I think if you catch a fish as large as that, and you want to get it mounted, good for you. Most likely people that are criticizing you are the ones that never caught anything as big as that,just jealous. Or maybe they supply the replicas or something???Who cares.Anyway look forward to seeing the pic.Nice job.

One that big I would have kept to mount too... Congrats! Nothing as exciting as such a big Walleye.

Why does someone always bring this up? The fella caught a fish of a lifetime, and it's legal to keep it ( as long as he signs the back of his licence of course.) so why not be happy for the guy? I've never caught one that big, most of us haven't, so good for him. It's legal to do so.The commercial guys take pigs all the time and not just one or two. If he wants to keep a monster like that, good on him. And please... don't get me going on lockport.... it's christmas!!!

Well I am not the worst fisherman out there.lol//I got masters in 9 species and specialist in 4.And I do have one a tad bigger than the one mentioned.I am glad he caught his hog,,just see no reason on people taking them out of the waters,,replicas are better than real mounts..And I do not have a taxidermy doing replicas,lol..

Congrats on the FOL. My daughter caught a 32 last year and I got it mounted for her. It is her fish of her young lifetime but the smile on her face everytime we look or talk about it is priceless. Not all big hogs are good spawning stock.Be proud of it.

I also don't understand why people keep fish out of the red river? I kept a couple once, my wife and I didn't enjoy them at all. Its not like there aren't 9999 other bodies of water in this province, most of those will have FAR better eating fish.

Keep that Big one and put it on the wall, it makes room for other fish to grow and be masters (if everyone and their brother didn't keep every fish they caught

Awesome fish can't wait to see the pics. I had a 30" Walleye mounted in 1990 by Mr.Fish it still looks as good as the day I got it done, and would highly recommend him. I know its not the same guy now, but he worked with Larry and does the same quality work. Real fish also look better than the replicas IMO. I've also caught lots of walleyes over that size since and had the pleasure of releasing all of them so keeping one for the wall is all good.

I never see the guys who like to keep a few to eat or one to mount run around telling the guys who like to release that they should keep their fish.So why do the releasers feel they have to tell a keeper to release ? Fisheries is on top of things and is making the rules so lighten up please

boy ..are we an opinionated bunch of fishermen/women. The man has a licence to catch what the govt allows him to catch and keep if he so wishes so give it a rest already. Nice catch. In anticipation for the pics as well. Congratulations!
