DIY spring bobber
« on: Mar 15, 2019, 10:08 AM »
Would anyone mind sharing what the best type of wire to use and where to buy it? I'm looking more for the titanium wire that is good for 3-4mm tungsten. Any help is appreciated.

jw,
I have made several out of old guitar strings. I got them out of a music store for free.  Whenever they
Needed to replace an old or broken string the old ones became “trash”. Not sure what they were made of, but they worked just fine.

30# wire leader is what I use. Cheap, easy to make, durable and sensitive. Finish wth nail polish or model paint.

I also use guitar strings.  Experiment with different lengths to get the sensitivity you want.  I wrap thread and then use fly cement to attatch to my rod.  Razor offthethread if you want to change or remove.
The world would be better if we all took a 6 month fishing trip twice a year.

Any decent hardware store should carry 3' lengths of spring wire. I don't recall the best diameters but just pinch one at about 6" from the end and twiddle it with your other hand until you find the one the has just the wiggle you want. I touch it to a propane torch flame for a second or two until it glows and quickly form the loop I want with some needle nose pliers. It's hard wire so have some good cutters on hand.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.
